It's also confusing me at the first time. And my brother (he's violin teacher) kept telling me the same thing. C# is NOT the same as Db. And he showed me how to play that in violin...

On a piano and any instrument with frets or fixed tunning they are. In a pure tuning they would be different but in an Even Tempered tuning they are the same. Maybe your brother was referring to a different tuning system.

I was referring to the proper spelling of the note, not hinting that they could somehow be played differently on a piano.

And Moskus, if a B is an H, why does it come after an A?
