______
Canoeing is an odd thing. It's like time travel going back centuries. This track was inspired by a canoe trip on a densely forested river.

On the River

Excellent piece Tim, the playing is outstanding as always. The recording is also great, with nice tones and just the right distance between the mic and the guitar. The part with the harmonics were especially cool - they harmonize nicely with the second guitar.

Man those guitars sound beautifull.

The playing is solid as allways.

I really like the mood of this one, nice tune to end this day with.
as I`m of for some shut eye.
Maybe I`ll do some serious canouing in my sleep:D

very nice! Is that a picture of where you were canoing?

The only place I've canoed in recent years was down "Buffalo Bayou" through the middle of Houston -- that was time travel back to before the last time anyone did serious trash collection, but I did see some unexpectedly cool wildlife.

I love the almost kyoto sbits near the beginning and the harmonics do add a great texture to a lovely piece
I like the ending...
Is this your usual recording set up & space?

Really nice. Thanks for sharing. What mics and what position/technique, if you don't mind my asking?

Congratulations!
Nice composition, excellent guitar sound too.
Are you playing over a "fixed" scale all (or almost) the time?I was trying to identify the "XIV century scale", but it´s hard... :D

Thanks Naka. Funny you'd say that... I use tracks like this to listen to as I sleep... helps to fall back asleep again when I wake during the night wanting to get up and edit/mix audio.:)

I do canoe there also but actually the river in this track was a different place. I'll see if I can find a pic of it.:)

No. It was very close mic'd due to a low ceiling in the room. Thanks Ray.

Thanks for listening zero. Schoeps mk41 mic's, set up in ORTF, but moved in close to the guitar - 2 ft. So not a true stereo configuration (as far as getting the sound of the room)... more of a close AB with a wide angle getting the close image of the guitar.

No. Just improvising thinking in loosely structured pitch shapes, tone color, dynamics and shapes of rhythmic articulation. Thanks for your comments CIRO.

Really good playing and sound. I like the little unexpected bits that pop up.

Nice job! The spatial quality and the performance sound top notch to me.

A little cerebral for a canoe trip perhaps (at least the ones I go on;)) but maybe pastoral with a slightly dark edge to it?

Thanks as always for posting this stuff.:)

I like it, Tim. This is improvisational, no?

It makes me wish they made a baritone classical guitar, just for you.

There's a bit of what I like to call "silent noisy air" to the recording ... as the background isn't "true black" ... it's gray -- for there's always rustle and room noise.

The funny thing is that the drier the immediate sound, the more notable the "silent noisy air" is ... probably due to contrast.

As a suggestion ... which tends to offset the effect ... I'd add small amounts of artificial room (a.k.a. reverb) to deepen the dry sound ...

The effect itself then tends to mask and blur the contrast inherent in the "silent noisy air". The effect "covers" it ... for the ear hears the effect, but doesn't notice the other sounds as much.

GREAT sound to the git -- excellent playing ... as per usual, Tim.

Best,

Kev-

Greg, Riffmaster, 60's guy - Thanks for your comments guys.:)

K-dub - Thanks for the suggestion. The room sound doesn't bother me. That's probably me breathing.;)

Heh, well, remember this is classical stuff... has to be cerebral. It's a rule.:p:D

Very nice composition Tim. Great playing as always. To my ears, I get a touch of baroque in the playing. Guess I'm in the right century. :D

Great Job Tim. It remind me of Poulenc a lot. Sound quality is crystal clear, it really sounds like you are sitting in my living room.;)

Yeah really great playing. Nice sounding guitars. I like the way the two parts intertwine and play off of each other.

I'm hearing a lot of background noise. I think it's you shifting in your chair (if I had to guess).

Other than that, I thought it was real nice.
