Ticks in ADAT recording

Our band has recorded a demo using ADAT. The recordings were fine, but all of a sudden ticks started to appear. Every time the tape was played, more ticks appeared. After storing the tape and the recorder in a warmer, dryer room for a while, the ticks were gone.

What could have been the cause of the ticks?
 
Moisture in damp places oxidizes certain tapes whereas the sound suffers from some hi-end loss and inherent noises become inherent on tape. Also a dirt build-up on ADAT tape-heads can also cause unwanted clicks,pops and what-have-you! It's best to make sure you have your ADAT heads cleaned after 200 hours of head-use.
What Brand of ADAT tape do you use!!??
