Thumping

I have tried recording my own comps both through the computer and my deck. I get a thumping from the base strings. Now I only have and only play acoustic, so that might be half my problem. I want to add Dulcimer and banjo to the background of a guitar based Country Waltz I wrote for my wife. I am disabled and can't dance and she loves to dance so I wrote her a waltz and I want to give it to her for Christmas. Help, I want her to be able to listen to it, fully arranged. Professional it doesn't half to be but I would like for it not to sound like a bad rap base line.

Thanks

Change the position and distance of the microphone. If it's too close to the guitar or the soundhole, the bass frequencies will be emphasized. Also, I dont know what equipment and or software you're using but try to find the problem frequency with a parametric EQ. It will probably be below 100Hz, most likely around the resonant frequency of the microphone.
