what is a good way to find a good threshold setting for vocals when using a compressor when mixing. what threshold and ratio settings do yall normally use

Jezar from dreampoint has a good trick for learning this. Cant find the article now but should be google able

try a search if you'd like. the best answers will come from your own experiments and experience. and threshold and ratio are both dependant on too many factors.

all depends on what you want to do, how dynamic the vocalist is, how hot you set your levels at, etc. If you're just trying to tame peaks, find a section that has a lot of peaks in it and set the threshold so only the peaks hit the compressor...then set a high ratio setting.
If you want leave the singers dynamics, set a low ratio. If he's too dynamic, high threshold and high ratio. In the middle....play around in between.
