Hey all, long time lurker and its been a minute since I've posted. Recently released a 5 song ep and Video with my band PsyChlo. Thought to post it here for some opinions on how it turned out. Shot on a Canon vixia hfr800 camcorder and edited on Sony vegas. Budget was $10 for gas.
Love to hear your thoughts...

I like the song, well played. I really like the singer's voice - smoky and sultry. Nice guitars. As good a video as a lot of pros do.

Thanks Eric! It's a no budget production for sure, so nice to hear that it doesn't look too amateur! Appreciate your thoughts 🙏

Lack of budget and lack of gear can always be trumped by the desire to achieve a good product. That, and talent. It would appear you, and your band have both. (y)

Looks like a Music Video - I don’t know if I agree with the shawdowed video parts - kind of grooves with the song and kind of doesn’t - but overall
a very convincing video - delivered your band performance - one thing though - you left the bass player out for the most part - awere you angry with
them or are they not photogenic?

Good job dude. Looks and sounds good. Very creative.

And I have to say... it's always refreshing to hear a rock song that does not have (or need) an obligatory guitar solo.:thumbs up:

Thanks for your input! We were going for a dark and shadowy look overall in hopes that it would suit the song...if i could shoot it again though I would throw a little more fill light in the darker areas. We kept the band shots to a minimum to keep the focus on our singer....she has good presence and the idea was to try to feature her vibe.

Thanks! I always try to play for the song and agree 100% about the obligatory solos. Alot of the time space for the groove can be better than a solo. But when the song calls Fer an epic lead im always down! Lol

The music is all very listenable to.
I'm with Papanate on the too dark visuals. Black dress - dark room.
I'd like to see more of the band, and a light show keyed in to the music.
Fairy lights don't cut it.
Even a bit of a guitar solo would give it a stand-out feature.
I may be in the minority here.

Thanks Raymond. Ya, agree on the darkness and the fairy lights, lol. We had a guitar solo just before the mid section originally when we were in the writing phase but cut it as we were kind of going for a "beatlesesque" kind of thing with that mid part. The solo was making it a hard transition. Definitely plan on using more individual band members shots in our next attempt. I did try to brighten things up in the edit but with such a consumer level camera things were getting too grainy. I should have known better when we were shooting and setting up the lighting.

Really nice song and great video!

I really enjoyed it. I noticed that you're still using Sony Vegas. Have you ever thought about upgrading? The software has had some pretty decent improvements since Magix took over from Sony.

Glad you liked it pjh. I've been using Vegas for so long its the workflow/interface that I've gotten used to. I did sit in with a friend's edit session for a couple hours, hes using Adobe premier pro, and I found it too confusing. I may upgrade to a more current version of Vegas at some point.

The thing that popped into my head was the sync of the vocals in places - quite a bit out. I suspect many wouldn't notice, but I'm very aware of even small sync losses - they sort of leap out at me, maybe because I spend so much time trying to fix them myself! Oddly, voice a few frames behind the picture is OK, but even just a bit ahead sort of strobes in my brain. Look wise, I actually liked the dark, and oddly, the black is pretty solid not noisy.

Thanks for checking it out! The sync thing was where we tried to shoot slow motion by speeding up the track when we shot ..didn't turn out like we wanted it to, but thankfully your the first person to have noticed it.

I’m just sensitive to it! Being honest, miming is now so common, and sound vision delays with HDMI everyday, people don’t notice.
