its my first time using my equipment. i really need some new mics.
I recorded it all with an mxl 990, 991, and a carvin cm50 (dynamic)
for drums i overheaded with the 991, kick with the 990, cm50 at for the snare/hi hat.
i really suck at drums, and this was more of a recording test than a great performance.
all of this went to an old mixer, panning the snare to the right, overhead to the left (it was more left to pick up the cymbal and tom, and to make it natural when i panned, and the kick to the center.
acoustic was recorded 990 off axis at the hole pointing toward the 12th fret, 991 at the neck.
electric was with the cm50 at the center of the speaker, and 990 doing room micing, though i wonder what the 991 would sound like.
the bass was direct, giving a peak of highs to make it fit the style of the song, and i put a C1 compressor on it.
the vocals were with the 990 with a pop filter.
for cheap cheap gear, and a lowsy drummer, it sounds alright. my friend sang (it's her song) and played acoustic. i played electric, drums, bass, and the added acoustic parts at the end.
i think i could have played with the snare/hat eq slightly, and upped the kick volume. i wish i could multitrack to do some real editing with the drums, but i can't yet.
