This is Mastered Quality stuff man.I mean HIGH QUALITY.....The quality of this recording is way beyond anything Ive ever heard here.

Damn,I guess we need 4 more years of Bush if he pisses you off enough to write stellar shit like this.:D

This is awsome man.

Thanks fellas. I took my time and burned instrument mixes to cd as I went. This way I could check the raw recordings on regular systems before going too far. Another thing I did differently is the vocals...I was very careful about monitoring levels in the phones while I tracked them. Not cranking the volume in the cans seems to have helped my pitch and consistancy. There's no EQ on the vocals, there is some chorus on the stereo vox to widen it up for dramatic effect.
The intro is a little digital micro recorder with the initial idea for the song. I stuck a MC012 in front of it's little speaker on my lap and hit record. The electric guitars (heavy) are a Les Paul and a Paul Reed Smith playing the part in unison 4 times- Marshall head, Fender cab, Sm57.
If you learn from every recording you do, it just gets more and more fun doesn't it?

Sam- I'm usually afraid my songs are too serious. I'm really a pretty easy going guy, but when it comes to music, I grew up with some pretty serious shit. And if I write, it's usually something upsetting me that motivates it. Thanks as always brothah!

WATYF- Hope this didn't piss you off too much. :) Congrats on the 1KSilver membership. There's no going back for ya now. You can never leave.

Meshuggah- Thanks for the listen bro. Glad you liked the vocals! I find singing to be a mountain of challenges.

Myx62- That's a funny pic! I forgot to put an advisory in my post too. I say the fuck word in the song. I feel so guilty and misguided.

chrisharris- Chris I got 2 whole pics in the Cave for ya ;) That shower studio pic is fucking hilarious!!!!

Axe4Yahweh- Cheers!

mixmkr- and I'll be right behind you two...

crawdad- Too funny! I believe one will find flyfishing more useful to the musical art than the spelling of the handle. When one's inner voice shuts the hell up, one begins to hear the sweet sounds of the stream and the nature around it filling God's great stereo field with pin-point accuracy. That's right...instead of buying that Great River pre, just head straight to the Great River ;)

JR#97- mmmm...mojo. Thank you. ;)

Kramer I want to hear this mastered professionally. I've done no mastering EQ or anything to it yet, cuz I'm afraid I'll fuck it up.

Guys thanks a lot! Very encouraging words!

SLuiCe, oh my. this is fantastic. and I don't think I have to say anything else. You know it's great!

Nice pic, also.

Great sounding mix-I like the song too. Nice sounding drums and good programming-though I thought they were a bit busy at times(1st verse)-I liked the clean guitar sound and the string skipping part was really cool-(did you add chorus to the guitar as the song went?)--Wasnt too crazy about the dist guitar sound-sounded like they could use a touch more highs (presence)-but I'm just nit-picking (gotta say something). Really like the wierd timing of the chorus--cool tune.

who needs a million dollar studio anyway, huh?

this sounds very pro to me. you're an example for us all. i love the attention to detail you give your mixes. Great idea listening to each track individually for problems on different systems.

i forgot what your pre is. can you remind me? dmp3 perhaps?

and great song too! vocals are tops on this one, especially the backups.

thanks. i have no constructive comments, cause i can't think of any. even the drums sound great. oh, can you remind me what those are again too?

thanks.

after many spins, I can't think of anything that wouldn't just be preference.. Don't screw around with this one anymore... :)

this tune is anthem-ish.. I could picture a big group of kids singing the chorus.. kinda like 'the wall'.. you know that big sound of about 100 kids sining at once.. maybe?

Yeah I know,

dtb- thanks for diggin it man.

Stratomaster- ya there's some chorus on the clean bridge. Thanks!

erichenryus- The pre's are a pair of VTB-1's...they're single channel. And the drum samples are Drumkit From Hell which Sam recommended to me after hearing them used on a song by Dauntless (?). I was using the drums from my keyboard before but they weren't cutting the mustard, or whatever that phrase is.

Sam- I was kinda thinking the same thing, but I they won't fit into my studio :(
Great pic! I have one that says "Beer: Helping ugly people get laid since 18xx" and another "Beer: Give your brain the night off." Love those :)

Awesome! As is everything I've heard from you.
The hi-hat sounds a little lonely in the left speaker. It might sound more natural if it weren't panned so hard. Can't come up with anything else to say - even at my nit-picky-est. Sounds great!

Hey Man,
I like the recorder intro. ......The usual very nice guitar sounds on this one........very very nice man! I really like how the wide vocals in the chorus "open" the song up. ........and again, nice use of octaves on the vocs. What effects are you using on the "clean your own fucking mess" line?
Re: the drums....... you never mentioned what they are.....
....?
They sound nice man!!

........nuthin to bitch about here man. Very nice tune!

G w/ another 5 from the stack of monogrammed pre-fab 5's that sits in my closet waiting for new SluiCe tunes.:)

.......btw: you mentioned in another post that you were going to get a bass soon.......

As much as i would love to hear that, .....why?
The way you use the synth bass is just plain excellent...... .....more tools to choose from are nice, but that kinda clean deep tone is gonna be hard to top unless youre intensions are things very specific to bass guitar.
......point being: ....youve found a great way to use the bass synth that doesnt sound like its used because you dont have a real one.

fprod south- I agree about the hi hat. It was particularly noticable in my living room. Thanks man :)

Guernica- RE: Drums...(From earlier response)
...And the drum samples are Drumkit From Hell which Sam recommended to me after hearing them used on a song by Dauntless (?). I was using the drums from my keyboard before but they weren't cutting the mustard, or whatever that phrase is.

The "clean your own..." line is double miked. I added a little verb and a lot of chorus to it in the mix to widen it. The main vocals are much cleaner, using only a bit of reverb and no EQ or chorus. I dig what you're saying about the bass stuff, it's just I love the feeling of real strings. My hands enjoy them. We'll see...
Thanks Mike :D

lol... :D

naw man.. it's all good in the hood... :p

I'll just make sure that my next song is about a stupid liberal politician... ;) :D  (but darn it... there's so many to choose from.. what ever will I do? ;) :p :D)

Seriously though... your stuff is really climbin' the "quality" charts. I'm mean... I can actually start to judge your stuff with a scrutinizing ear now.. :p instead of having to treat it like just another "home recording". The main detraction you still have is the fake drums, but even those have gotten so much better that they're not nearly as noticable any more (except to anal drummers like me. :p)

[edit] lol.. I just realized that I'm signed in as my brother.... :p sorry.. I'm over at his house using his gear... :D (I'm gonna post a retracked version of one of my recordings using some of his stuff.. )[/edit]

There are a lot to choose from, from both left and right! If not for the NWO stuff I mentioned, this song could have been about just about any over-ambitious politician with a big mouth. I am of course no political analyst, I just hope we're doing the right things...

Give me time...I'll puke it up.

well, I'm with you on that one. I think we should just flush Washington and start over. :D

and now back to your regularly scheduled, non-political thread. :p

WATYF

You use synth bass? I have listened to most, if not all of your posted stuff and never noticed.
I've got a strong "anti synth" philosohpy and you put one over on me. I had thought you were a good bass player. Good work!:D

heh...I wouldn't consider myself a bad bass player either...I just don't have a bass :)
