The OC 703 is now sitting snug as a bug in a rug in the frames.
Well, you best be hoping there aren't any of those Dugites in there with those snug bugs!!!

This cloth is getting stapled to the frame to cover the OC 703. This is the back of the traps. You can see that my frames are only 3" deep and I have two sheets of 2" OC 703 in the frames. You can see the routered angle on the wood for the corners more clearly here. I also trimmed the edge of the OC 703 on the same 45 degree angle.

I will post more pics up when I have the front face covered.
What is all those dark red spots on the floor...? ...Blood?!!

That's it!! I used a Stanley Trimmer with an extendable blade so that you can cut through the OC 703 without too many passes. You will want the blade to be able to be at least as thick as the OC 703. It's easier that way! :)

This is a picture of the one I used. See the retractable blade.
You done went and cut your finger off, didn't ya?!!!

I hope your toes move as well as your fingers!!! :D

NICE WORK R00!!!

Where's the lava lamp?...

Are ya finished with your studio now r00?...

Hows about now...?

Nice room Gorty, I just finally moved into my house last week. The eviction party at the apartment was great! I had a question I hope is not silly but does putting the wood trim you put halfway up the wall help with noise reduction? And the noise absorbers you have above your studio board that is the auralex stuff right? I am looking to make my new music room a little more soundproof than it is right now. Thanks

The wood was merely for a visual quality when I put it up originally, but as far as noise reduction goes I suppose it is another material sound has to travel through but I don't really think it would be doing a great deal to quieten things down on the otherside. It does however help bring some sparkle to the acoustic guitars when played.

The absorbers I have used above my mix station is the Auralex product! The Auralex products are fine for taming the mids-highs but you will need to add bass trapping to tame the bass frequencies. The best medium for this is the OC703 rigid fibreglass. This treatment is designed to give you a more accurate sounding room for mixing, not so much for soundproofing.

When you say "soundproof" do you mean to try and keep the sound from escaping the room? If so, these products will help somewhat but there is other ways that can help you combat the so called "soundproofing".

Cheers Dumby!

Gorty :)

I need to reduce the amount of noise that's escaping the room yes first of all.

Here's my first bass trap fitted to the corner! Like I mentioned earlier in this thread that the traps aren't as big as I would of liked them to be so I made them a size that wouldn't take all the corners out of my not very large studio.

I have the OC703 4" thick and I used some of my newly acquired Auralex acoustic treatments to cover the front of the bass traps. This is how they look as a finished product!

Gorty sure loves his foam! how's the room sound?

i know once i put up my fiberglass traps, the room sound changed pretty dramatically. now i can tap drumsticks together in the middle of the room without hearing that nasty quick echo. if i try that in my bedroom, even with the carpeted floor, it has a crazy ringy echo.

Wow r00...that looks good!! It even has Tinker dust all over it!!! :D

So, what is next...a cloud?

Looking good Gorty, I like the auralex idea over the front for extra absorption...

Getting rdy to head downstairs ands start on day 2 for me on the floors

I know I said this before but nice monitor stands you built there ~

I'm waiting for the proper adhesive to arrive for my Auralex. The large sections that I have in front of my mix position is coming away here and there. I used double sided tape which is pretty sticky, but not enough for the larger pieces.

What will you have left to do to your room, after you use the adhesive r00?
