okay, just about to go out and buy a new mixer. if it helps with the question a Behringer Xenyx 1832FX that comes with an audio interface (not that i'll use that, i've already got a decent one) BUT..

the big question is. how on earth do i get each mixer channel, say each drum mic to show up on a different channel on the screen because im going to want to run drumagog through a few of them because i have some KILLER samples and it'll just generally be better for the mix so i can add further EQ and vst's to the drums and levels etc etc..!?

i swear it wont work if the mixer goes in through an interface ! would it have to be a usb interface for my computer to recognise the different channels or is there a way around it because surely not all mixers that do this are USB!? if it helps i use steinberg nuendo or cubase!

apologies for my stupidity if there is an easy way round it, iv always just interfaced vdrums untill now, so im learning a whole new thing!

any help greatfully recieved!

You need a mixer with direct outs on each channel. Most "budget friendly" mixers (including the vast majority of Berry's) don't.

There are a few ways to "cheat" -- Subgroup outs, aux sends, plugging a cable halfway into an insert jack... But ideally, a direct line from the preamp is the best way to go.

But I see from other posts that you use Nuendo -- If you can afford a $3,000 recording program, you should easily be able to use a reasonably decent recording console. Toft is making a nice one for under $5k. Why would you want such a cheesy board if you spend so much on your software (which doesn't do anything for the sound anyway)?

I'm confused -- You want to run OUT of the box through THIS thing? Because you think it's going to sound BETTER?!?

Or am I missing something...?

Plus, not many people choose nuendo. more than likely, it's cracked. Which = free ;)

that mixer will not send each channel to your computer. That's not what it's made for.

And if you are planning on doing the eq etc in VSTs, what's the point of the mixer in the first place?

Are you trying to expand your interface to get like 8 channels or something? If so, you may want to check out the ever popular firepod/fp10 by presonus. Or... (what I'd recommend) the motu 8pre.
