I'll name another name..

Tom Hicks..

After I was ignored several times by him, I told him that was the last song of his that I will comment on..

I notice he thanks everyone now.. :)

I only comment on certain things now.. I have posted enough to see who is who around here..

It would be nice to see some more 'heavy hitters' commenting, but I don't really care about them as much as I used to..

One day, I will be a 'heavy hitter' myself, and then I'll be cool.. :D

 maybe?

I knew you would start dropping names.:DThis whole thing doesnt really bother me that much..Most of the perceptive posters here have figured out who the "stars"'/wanna be stars are who are just looking for praise...those people are to be avoided like the plague...I aint gonna drop no names. I reserve the right to tell anyone their music sounds like shit if it does(newbie/heavy hitter/whoever) and that kinda balances things out for me.:D

If people are here to get patted on the back for everything they post they're definetly in the wrong place.

Oh,what was this thread about?Oh yeah, just avoid those who only post their own tunes but never weigh in on others.

This is not a forum to put people up on a pedistal. If their stuff sux then they need to know, thats why we are here in the first place. I really have to thank Kramer, because when I first got here I posted my songs all over the place and was like "listen to me" but Kramer cut me down to size and I am thankful that he did. So, I finally got the posting right and then I didnt comment on others stuff because I was intimidated and someone said..."you want your stuff heard you better start commenting on what you hear" so I figured "I have been recording stuff here at home for about 10 years now, I gotta have something to say" And I am glad that I did, and I have you guys to thank for that

deja vu?

Didn't we cover this topic already...?

Last time we covered this topic, didn't it cause rifts between different members of the board?

and this time, isn't it doing the same thing...?

HHHhhhmmmm....

:p

There's a couple things to consider here... First off... it's only an internet message board. This isn't a "family" or even a work environment. We have no responsibilities whatsoever to each other. (other than to obey the Terms and Conditions of the site.)

Second,... you have to realize that some people come here for different reasons... some come just to listen and post comments,.. and really don't plan on ever posting anything themselves (for whatever reason)... some come just to post their stuff but don't really like making comments about other people's music... some come just to listen, but never comment or post... and some come to listen, post comments, and post their own stuff... But so what? That's their prerogative. There's nothing wrong with any of those methods.

And Lastly,.. you never know what's going on with people's situations... some people are incredibly timid and would never venture to say something about someone else's work, for whatever reason... some people don't really have the means to comment (have slow dial-up connection and can only listen to lo-fi.. have crappy PC speakers and really can't comment on mix quality, etc. etc.) some people are just too darn busy to spend time recording and critiquing other people's music... and some people have extenuating circumstances that prevent them from contributing... I myself can't really comment on much of anything right now because my monitors are in for exchange, and I have literally no speakers on my computer right now...

Essentially... there's just way too much to consider when you get off into the "why don't they comment" stuff... Sure,... some people just want attention.. but how do you know??? How can you determine whether they've got a good enough "excuse" not to reciprocate???? Heck,... I don't see why it should even be something that is "tracked"... especially considering that some people don't care if comments are reciprocated... like me... I'll post on whatever I listen to that I feel I have something suitable to comment about.. period. That's my only criteria... I don't ever take into account,.. "now when's the last time they commented on my stuff." And I honestly don't care if they ever do. I believe I commented on Scott's stuff and thought it was nice.. and quite frankly, I couldn't tell you if he's ever commented on my stuff, and just as frankly, I don't give a rat's @ss if he ever does. I comment with impunity, and I have no problem at all with people who don't "reciprocate" my comments... because they weren't made with some kind of underlying, "now.. I said somethin' aboot you... so now you gotta say something aboot me" implication.

So... I just wanted to make it clear to everyone who doesn't really comment much on other people's stuff,... that I don't mind it one bit... and I totally disagree with the notion of requiring "reciprocation" of comments. I hope no one feels the need to leave because of things that are being said right now regarding this topic, (just like people started talking about leaving the last time this "idea" was brought up... *cough*macle*cough*)

But to be clear... if you choose to post in a reciprocating manner.. (i.e. expecting returned comments) then far be it from me to say you "can't" or anything like that.. but don't go around dragging people's names through the mud just cause they don't agree with your version of internet "etiquette", cause not everybody feels the same way as you.

I wasnt saying that they have to listen to MY stuff, I just felt that out of consideration...and I was really only directing it to the people that you see here every few days..."heres another one...listen to this one...my latest charttoper" or whatever. If they have the time to post and they have the time to bump their thread back up to the top with a few comments I feel they can at least say something to somebody about their mix good, bad or whatever. These people know who they are. Yes, we have discussed this before, as I stated at the beginning...I was just throwing something out there that bothers me from time to time. I always know who will comment and who wont, the point I am making is in order for us to listen to a post we are taking time out of our lives to do it...If someone wants to be the next rock god by getting to number 1 on mp3 or whatever then they shouldnt step on people to get there...

First things first

Scott Tansley - Your name was not dragged through the mud.. I said 'your tunes are usually really good,' but you have never once even acknowledged that I listened.. Look at every thread you have ever started since I have been a member and you will see what I mean.. Sometimes you thank people, but you always (read: every single time) ignore my comments.. IMHOP, you have some of the best music posted no doubt! 'Public Relations' is one of the best songs I have ever heard here.. If you don't post anymore, that sux... I did not insult you, or drag your name through the mud at all.. What I said was the 100% truth, that's all.. your music kicks ass, so don't let me drive you away please.. I'm an idiot, and you would be wise to ignore me.. I listened to your 2 latest songs, but my opinion means nothing to you, so I saved myself the time it would have taken me to type it...

WATYF - glad you joined in.. It wouldn't have been the same without hearing what you think aboot this.. You said, "Don't go dragging peoples names through the mud just because they don't agree with your version of internet etiquette."

I did not drag anyones name through the mud.. Try to find one part of my statement that isn't true, and I will apologize and never bring it up again.. :)

I listen and comment on plenty of peoples music who never comment on my tunes.. I base it on their attitude alone, and the rest falls into place..

Wanna see a list of cool people? I know their names by heart.. :)

and another thing, I didn't start this thread, why have I become the bad guy again?

I am staying out of off topic threads in the future..

Just hope I can stop starting them. :)

Scott, ignore me..

WATYF, listen closely!

nah...Im the bad guy on this one!!!
But once again the only people to respond are the same ones that always do...dont get pissed at me guys because I value all or your opinions!!
I just had a beef and had to express it:confused:

and another question...can someone explain the envelopes on the left side of the thread titles to me...what do the different colors mean and what do they mean in general??

I'll through my 2 cents in anyway. I hope no one leaves this bbs. It's a great thing and I'm glad I found it. You guy's have been great. Yes it's true that there are certain people who critique much more than others. I for one don't have the skills or the reference monitors that allow me at this time. Usually I just say good song, good beat stuff like that. But one day all that might change because of so much I'm learning here.

hey Flash, I usually listen to peoples songs through fairly cheap computer speakers..

BTW, your on the cool list.. :D

For the record,.. I don't think anyone is the "bad guy" here... and I never said any such thing... (what's that aboot "listening closely"??? :p ) I totally understand your guy's reasons for having a beef aboot the topic, but I simply wanted to interject my personal opinion on the matter, which happens to differ from yours... I also wanted to make sure that you were aware of some other points of view and factors regarding this issue.

As for dragging names through the mud... let's be frank... you don't start a topic aboot a disliked "type" of HR.com member... and then mention specific names, and expect it to have a positive effect on their reputation. You're right... you didn't say, "He's a jerk.. I hate him" or anything silly like that.. but when an entire thread is started about a "type" of member that everyone is expressing a disliking for, and then someone start naming names... it affects their reputation negatively... that's just how it is... and people are people... they don't like their name getting thrown around with a negative connotation attached to it.. so they tend to get bothered when that happens.

Let's not turn this into another "you're wrong about what I said/meant/implied" fiasco... the only thing I'm saying here is that I think it should be left up to the individual how they post on this forum... whether it be just songs... or just comments... or both,.. or not at all.. or whatever. Unless the rules of the MP3 Clinic state, "You must reciprocate comments", then I think we should just be allowed to have our own methods... and making lists aboot how doesn't conform to your set of methods, (IMNSHO :D), is counter productive..

whoa!!!!!!!!!!!

i just got back from the jam fest today, and i have missed alot.
the shit has hit the fan!!!!!! man i love these thread's

btw. the jam fest rocked!!!!!!!!!!!

bottom line is........if i listen, i say something, unless the poster is looking for mix comments only, and nothing stands out to my feeble ear's:D then ill leave it to the guy's that can really help.
like......participant,sab, cranky, mix, theron,kramer,guernica,mkg,cyan... and the list goes on.
if you took the time to post your tune for comment, and these guy's reply, then do the same for them!!! how hard is that???
this is what it's all about!!!! isn't it??

well i have alot of tunes to listen to...hooray for me!!!

and chad..... you name dropper you, im workin on it bro!!!!!

peace

Thanks Sami, your definitly on mine. BTW, I still think it would be cool if you put some real drums on Hazed. One day I'll be good enough I hope to say stuff like the right guitar needs eq'ed at 4hz and stuff like that. Maybe some people are just afraid to post stuff, I don't know. I'll at least tell ya if I like the song, or if something really pops out in my face I'll let them know. That's what I do anyway.

I'm not a preacher man but, I did learn something at a very young age.

Treat your Neighbor as you would have him treat you.

Peace to all...

I honestly don't expect everyone to listen to what I do. Just because I comment on somebodys song doesn't mean they are now obligated to listen to mine. However, whenever I see a new name on the board and notice that they haven't responded to my new masterpiece, I'm damn sure gonna give them a fucking nasty critique that rips 'em to shreds. Lack of musical skill, bad songwriting, lousy singing, poor engineering--hell, just posting a genre that I don't like. Its all gonna be fair game! Spare no quarter. And if its really good, I'll lie and say it sucks...just to bring 'em down a notch.

OK, OK OK...I am just KIDDING folks. :DI really think we should let the board find its own balance. There are a number of people who have HELPED me here--you know who you are. For them, I will bend over backwards to return the favor if I can. That list grows every week and I am thankful and grateful that these wonderful people care enough to give. There are a few myopic individuals whose only reality is "lets talk about me" I don't want their opinions anyway. And I'm a quick study on who's genuine and who's so self centered that they won't make time for others. It ain't about the talent--its about the PERSON.

Fortunately, almost everyone here is great. I don't keep track of who posts on my stuff and who doesn't. It doesn't matter. The people that like what i do seem to come around again and I get used to seeing familiar names. I like that, but I'm not about to get upset with someone if they fail to drop a comment. I'm easy...
