deja vu?
Didn't we cover this topic already...?
Last time we covered this topic, didn't it cause rifts between different members of the board?
and this time, isn't it doing the same thing...?
HHHhhhmmmm....
There's a couple things to consider here... First off... it's only an internet message board. This isn't a "family" or even a work environment. We have no responsibilities whatsoever to each other. (other than to obey the Terms and Conditions of the site.)
Second,... you have to realize that some people come here for
different reasons... some come
just to listen and post comments,.. and really don't plan on ever posting anything themselves (for whatever reason)... some come
just to post their stuff but don't really like making comments about other people's music... some come
just to listen, but never comment
or post... and some come to listen, post comments, and post their own stuff... But so what? That's their prerogative. There's
nothing wrong with any of those methods.
And Lastly,.. you never know what's going on with people's situations... some people are incredibly timid and would
never venture to say something about someone else's work, for whatever reason... some people don't really have the means to comment (have slow dial-up connection and can only listen to lo-fi.. have crappy PC speakers and really can't comment on mix quality, etc. etc.) some people are just too darn busy to spend time recording
and critiquing other people's music... and some people have extenuating circumstances that prevent them from contributing... I myself can't really comment on much of anything right now because my monitors are in for exchange, and I have literally no speakers on my computer right now...
Essentially... there's just way too much to consider when you get off into the "why don't they comment" stuff... Sure,... some people just want attention.. but how do you know??? How can you determine whether they've got a good enough "excuse" not to reciprocate???? Heck,... I don't see why it should even be something that is "tracked"... especially considering that some people don't
care if comments are reciprocated... like me... I'll post on whatever I listen to that I feel I have something suitable to comment about.. period. That's my only criteria... I don't
ever take into account,.. "now
when's the last time they commented on
my stuff." And I honestly don't care if they ever do. I believe I commented on Scott's stuff and thought it was nice.. and quite frankly, I couldn't tell you if he's ever commented on my stuff, and just as frankly, I don't give a rat's @ss if he ever does. I comment with impunity, and I have no problem at all with people who don't "reciprocate" my comments... because they weren't made with some kind of underlying, "now.. I said somethin' aboot
you... so now you gotta say something aboot
me" implication.
So... I just wanted to make it clear to everyone who doesn't really comment much on other people's stuff,... that
I don't mind it one bit... and I totally disagree with the notion of requiring "reciprocation" of comments. I hope no one feels the need to leave because of things that are being said right now regarding this topic, (just like people started talking about leaving the
last time this "idea" was brought up... *cough*macle*cough*)
But to be clear... if you choose to post in a reciprocating manner.. (i.e. expecting returned comments) then far be it from me to say you "can't" or anything like that.. but don't go around dragging people's names through the mud just cause they don't agree with your version of internet "etiquette", cause not everybody feels the same way as you.
