thinking about a new imac and a tascam us-1641

I've never recorded music in my life. I've wanted to record music for a few years now and have been saving up. The laptop i have now will not be sufficient for recording audio, so i was thinking about buying an iMac and Logic pro. Ive been looking for an audio interface for a while and the tascam us-1641 looked pretty good. I would be looking to record my buddies drums, guitar and bass, vocals, and maybe over time a synth. I'm looking for anyones opinion on this.

Can't comment on the Tascam, never used one. If you're going to get an imac, why bother getting logic? You're imac comes with garage band free. It's way easier to use, will sound just as good, and if some day you decide you must have logic, your garage band files open directly into logic, so you've lost nothing. Use the money you'll save on logic to get a better interface.

If you buy the Tascam US-1641 it will include Cubase LE 4 which will get you pretty far in terms of basic recording and mixing.
