thin vocals

ive recorded some spoken word tracks and they sound a bit thin and slightly echoie.

can anyone suggest how i might be able to make the voice sound more resonant ?

I'm assuming you're new to recording?
To get rid of the "echoie" sound, you'll have to deaden the room you are recording in.
To help faten the voice, you could try using some compression, as well as use a condenser microphone.
 
Most microphones have a 'proximity effect' which makes the sound fuller (more bass) the closer you get to the mic. You can also experiment with angling the microphone silghtly away from the source.
 
unfortunatly i can't re-record this particular track and have to try and patch it up some how. is there anything that cool edit can do with it or am i dreaming?

Try using the basic noise reduction once or twice over, and then use the eq to lower the very high frequencies to get a balance of tone and hiss that is acceptable for use. I've been able to get some very crappy recordings to sound decent using nothing but cool edit, so don't give up. Another secret is to zoom waaay in on the track and do 'insert silence' every place the track has silence. (in other words, delete the hiss when it's by itself). This is an indepsosable technique when mixing multiple tracks. Hope this helps.

We're all newbies at something, no matter what. I'm new to marathon running. I did some research and found out that I don't run the right way... Go figure. Keep at it; the learning is the best part :).
 
Hi there,

duplicate your vox take. Throw a compressor of choice and smash the hell out of it (10:1 to infinity sometimes), so that you can hear every little lip smack and tongue waggle and bring this up under the original.

EQ out some highs (and maybe some lows if too muddy) to reduce thinness (try both pre and post compressor).

Retracking in a dead room would be optimal though.
