And this isn't too strange for me.........................
There are things I really like that are even stranger...................

this one seems very mechanical to me. I mean, just because a piece isn't traditional in it's note and chord structure and even time doesn't mean it can't have a feeling to it and I've heard other stuff of yours that did evoke a feeling or even a groove albiet, not a 4/4 groove.
This one though, sounds like a 'puter programed to produce a series of notes with no human action at all.

It's cool I guess. Seems like a better way to make music in a way, no perfecting or planing needed.

flat-9: maybe if you jettisoned all those categories, the tune would stand a better chance of actually getting heard by whatever it is in you that likes music. I like the doc's stuff cuz I've been listening to it for years. It doesn't sound unusual any more, it sounds familiar. In fact, if I was looking for something to criticize in this tune, it wouldn't be the tune itself as much as the fact that it sounds very much like other stuff he's done in the past. But you know, that's true of most people who post here - listen to stuff by Crawdad, Sluice, Chrisharris, BSabbath - excellent, interesting high quality stuff, but you can recognize who's doing it straight off because of a signature sound kind of thing. (Hmmm...this is giving me an idea for a new clinic challenge...)
Anyway, give this tune some time. Listen to it on two more occasions - once in a week, and once in two weeks when you've been drinking or something. When you're familiar with it, you won't need cluing in any more - you'll understand it. Maybe even like it.

(I used to have two- including one nice one)The "perfecting" is done from a dimensional perspective different from that which is evident from the listener's reference plane.
dobro- don't sweat the characterizations made from such a perspective. Those in search of "tonal center" or "harmonic continuity" would do better to either, as you suggested, scrap the categories or listen to more popular music.

Flat 9 - Dude, I know EXACTLY how you feel, lol...my first post in one of Doc's threads was a herculean attempt to not offend, lol...but like Dobro said, once you sort of know what to expect, then it's just interesting stuff.
I haven't seen him around here lately, but Jamal Buchet's first post in one of Doc's threads was something like...
"Sounds like your cat is just walking across the piano"...
...to which Doc very candidly replied that THAT may have actually occurred, lol...which is probably when I decided that it's okay to not "get it" sometimes.
I don't over-analyze this stuff either... regardless of what he may have had in mind when he was composing, it just doesn't make sense to try to understand it, lol. I think of it kind of like those Avante Garde film clips where there's just a blistering fast succession of unrelated still shots (mostly black and white) with some color shots thrown in for dynamics...they usually have names like "Foraging For Treadlines" or something...they don't last very long usually, or you'd overload and just block it out, but while it's happening, it's interesting.

Nice. It's no D09d1, though it's definitely reminiscent . I love the rhythmic interplay, as usual, but I really wish you'd experiment with some different module sounds. There's a definite signature with the patches you choose, but personally I wanna hear what you'd do with some totally different textures.
On the quality side, this recording isn't quite up to the same level as that opening piece from the CD. But I don't hear the glitches that other people are picking up, so I wonder if it's a player issue. I'm using Winamp 2.666, FWIW.

of course this "music" has a style. randomness in itself is a style then too. But like said earlier...the mechanicalness of this shows [to me]that anyone with access to a sequencer for the first time can come up with results just as gratifying. Now...maybe if this was constructed of loops and samples that were altered to protect the innocent.
