Hey Daddy-O

They already did re-issue 'em with that crappy tone!

They just wrote 'Crate' on them, that's all.

It's a no brainer why a manufacturer would want to do this, and it amazes me that they continue to get away with it. You see, every part that gets cosmetically ruined during assembly, every newly painted body that gets scratched or dented, and every pick-up that gets dropped and blemished (including lots of work by new trainees) would normally be scrapped, unless of course rework is possible, but that can be costly. Thanks to some Fender employee's brilliant cost-savings suggestion these components are now slated for the "custom shop" where they are further abused to make pseudo-vintage instruments.

Fender has not only devised a method of recovering cost of scrapped components, they profit enormously from it.

Now you've got to love that stunt.

... and in the meanwhile, a guy who can't afford a 1956 Mary Kay Strat (at a cool $15,000+) gets to play a Fender Custom Shop guitar that you can't tell from 5 feet away is not a real Mary Kay Strat. (... and neither can I and I bought and sold vintage guitars for about five years in the late '80s/early '90s).

I say more power to him - the only difference (cosmetically) is that there is an impressed 'decal' on the back of the headstock.

Is it any different than a guy driving a tricked out '38 Ford with a new engine, custom interior and a CD player?

They're both just looking for a certain vibe, and if a relic gets him there, cool.

Would I play one - no, I've already got all the guitars I'll ever need (okay, I don't have a mid-'60s Rick 12-string or an early '50s L-5 yet) but I'm one of the lucky few who got into it before most people knew the prices were going to get so out of hand.

Have you heard about Gibsons new relic, it comes with the peghead already broken ! And if your brain injury is bad enough, you may forget that it was new ! Hey, maybe they will include the drugs with the purchase so you can't remember when..... you bought it ! NEW DULL FISH HOOKS ! NEW BROKEN KNIFE BLADES !
I'm... slowly........ losing............. the ............... will...................to .....................live................................................................................. !
Thats it !

Uhhh...relic...uh.......amps

Yep......I know a guy who does recovering and aging. He did a couple of my tweeds after I saw his own stuff. Now,I stopped at just getting the tweed "aged" looking (not that glow in the dark yellow that Fender uses),but this guy has made some cabs with dirt, frayed corners, and ciggy burns!Well, the first time I saw them I thought he had a roomful of old tweeds and brown amps! Actually,he did have some old ones, and I couldn't tell them apart from his stuff. He collects old speakers from organs and whatever,so he always has a supply of old Jensens and Utahs. My take on all this? Whatever turns your prop.I think for fun,it can be innocent.Beyond that,it really is a sickness (LOL).
