There is a lot of hiss sound in my recordings

I have used this exact set up except for the mic, I used a Sennheiser ME80, to record a lecture for later distribution.

There was no hiss at all, in fact the speaker was talking very quietly (lecture was about meditation) and the channel gain was cranked up. The only noise you could hear was a bit of the ducted air conditioner, people moving around in the room and the breathing of the person doing the talk.

There should be no noise from the Behringer 202 USB device as I have always found them to be quite, even though they are cheap and cheerful.

Are you sure what you have is not an earth loop via the USB device and the computer? This generates a whirring noise, hiss and a load of problems, this is becoming more common with newer computers and lap tops with earthed power supplies. A quick check if using a laptop is to try unplugging the power supply and running on batteries, if the noise goes that earth loop is the problem. If it is an earth loop, you need one of these between the mixer and the USB card.

Oh and I used this set up, even though I have more expensive recording gear, due to it being very portable, easy to set up and it sounds fine.

One thing you could do to help localize the source of the problem is, if you have a set of headphones, to plug them into the mixer and see if you have the hiss there or not.

If you have the hiss there, the problem is not necessarily your interface, but rather either in the microphone use, the phantom power to the mic, or in the mixer itself.

If the hiss is not in your phones, then the problem is likely either in the tape outs on the mixer (it's a damn shame you have to use those to connect to your interface), or in the gain structure from the tape outs and the interface (make sure you're sending a hot enough signal to the tape outs), or in the interface itself.

Yes i guess, as when i put the trim on my mic channel upto 60-70% i can hear a lot of hiss already...i believe there is definitely something wrong with my USB device.

I have tried searching stuff on gain staging too.one of the folks here who runs this IRN website directed me to his website and i got some pretty neet stuff there..Thanks for that bro!!!

M letting the signal cross through mic channel to main mix then to cd/tape from where it is being transported into my computer via the USB device.

Do you get the hiss with the headphones on the 2222 when recording or only after you monitor what you recorded? Did you try a different mic, cable, channel?

yeah, if you want to find the source of the noise, you really just have to break it down and listen to each piece on its own until you find out what is causing it. I have used Behringer mixers as well as one of those behringer usb cards, and when set up correctly, neither of those should have any noticeable noise.
