So....

How 'bout them 'Niners?

:D

Hahaha... On a serious note though.. this thread has been quite informative... and has more lives than all five of my cats put together. Good stuff though. ^_^

Try checkin' the dates on the posts... I ignored this thing for weeks and it still kept going and goooing... :p Trust me.. I'm more than done with this topic... I shoulda listened to the comments I got on the very first page... (in fact.. the very first reply)
"keep saving."
That's my final thought on the topic. After all this big fat waste of time, I'm really no more satisfied with the results I got with any of the new pres, (MQ3, VTB-1, DMP3) than I was with what I got from my little behringer mixer. :(

Patience is a virtue, ya know... :p I shoulda waited... So I guess my revised advice... (which is pretty much just a regurgitation of what I was told in the first place...:p) is to plunk down ~50 bucks for a behringer (or some other small mixer) just so you have some decent, functioning pres,.. and then start saving for a real step up in sound quality... like the RNP or Grace 101.

oops.. did I just respond again..?

(What's up with people jumpin' all over me for no good reason?? Do I have a "get mad at me, please..." sign stapled to my forehead or something? :p )

i was more than happy to help you oat with keeping your lovely thread alive!

the funny thing is im sure youre right about the behringer. i have that same mixer. the one with the 2 preamps. ive never used the preamps but ive used the mixer for keys and now for my sampler and its fine. im happy with my tube mp and mackies and my blue tube and...

all the preamps youre talking aboot are solid state and solid state doesnt have to be expensive to be useful.

if you can get a dolby surround reciever for 100 bucks you should be able to get a decent mic preamp for 70.

its not the best in the world is it? of course not but why should it be?

:)

I suspect that even if they were to upgrade to a Great River or an API console, most wouldn't be able to appreciate the difference between that and your behringer mixer until the rest of their signal chain is properly addressed.

Most home recordists should be plunking the bulk of their dollars in to their room acoustics before even the remotest thought of a more expensive mic pre even enters their head. What's the point? So you can more accurately capture your standing waves, early reflections, and other phasy-sounding pressure nooodes?

Loooovely. :D

noooodes!

i have not seen this point put so succinctly!

congratualtions cheeserock!!!

LOLOLOLOL!!!!!

this is a post with real oomph! pizzaz! a post to be reckoned with fershure man!!!

:)

WATYF,

I would venture to say if you can't hear the difference between these pre amps then it's your monitors you need to upgrade. If you have cheap speakers it is difficult to hear the differences in most all audio upgrades including plug-ins, external effects etc. I can clearly hear the differences between my Behringer mixer and the DMP3 and it is vast.

Not to create an argument but the Behringer has been relegated to outbound signals only due to its noise level in my studio.

What speakers are you listening through, out of curiosity?

.. I likke the fact that we have so many votes, keep voteing everyone.

cheers all

Man I just spent a good while reading this thread. Is it really finished?

This thread will be WATYF's last lingering regret 75 years from now, when the millionth thread view becomes reality

PLEASE...

MAKE IT STOP!!!

FOR THE LOVE OF GOOOOD!!!

Do you even realize that I've been through four different pre's since this stupid thing started?!?!! I don't even use a stand-alone pre anymore since I got digi001...

You don't say?

You know what would be really nice? If there were one ultimate entry level mic pre... you know... something that sounds good for us guys just starting to record ourselves.

What we really need is some information... opinions... kinda like a thread on an audio recording bulletin board, or something...

well i think that if you stick with brand names that you know are great you should do just fine:

behringer

presonus

art

etc.

just be sure to get one of each!

:)

and dont waste your money on the expensive models either.

:)

What if I bought a coupla those Joe Meeks & sold 'em on Ebay? Maybe then I could afford something swanky like a BlueTube?

well if you could find a way to sucker a store out of the meeks for cheap then yeah!

:)

i have a feeling that those meeks sound great too!

:)

I hate you all...

:p :D

Actually... I'm above those silly "entry level pres" now... :p Once I got access to a U87 running into an Avalon pre, it kind of made discussions aboot joe meeks and behringers moot. (and yes... it is spelled that way... "m-o-o-t". Look it up. :p)

and dang it... I've been a "Force of Nature" for, like, ever now... I need to make 1K member or I'll feel wholly inadequate... somebody give me ideas on how to pad my post count....... other than keeping this thread alive... :p
