All,

I thought I would share with you the outcome of my exhausting microphone search. I've been looking for a new vocal mic for quite some time and did all the research...

So I ponied up and got the Neumann tlm103...I definitely wasn't planning on dropping that kind of cash on a new mic, but something kept telling me to just do it. I knew that I would still crave that mic even if I got something else....and it was time for "the best" (it is MY fantasy mic).

Not for 1 second have I regretted it...I remember a comment that went something like: "be a man, step up to the plate and get the best you can afford"...NO, this wasn't the sales guy telling me this either!

Recording is something I do, and love...even if it's just me in my little crappy bedroom studio, I still have the passion...It gives me that little extra boost just knowing that I have the tlm103 waiting for me whenever I do a vocal...

Just had to share...I encourage everyone looking for a mic to step up as well...get the best you can handle!! You won't regret it!!

Brings a tear to my eye to here you make this report. ;) I'm very serious here. I'll claim that quote, and I'm glad that it affected you positively. The settled feeling that you appear to have is exactly the feeling of truly stepping up to the plate (--knowing that at least for now ... at this moment ... what you have is the best you can get and you have no current 'burning' desires).

I'm sure that if you stick with recording, you'll get even more stuff, but the TLM 103 is a great start and a fine mic. Never owned one, but a friend has one and I've used it a time or two on vocals. I'm truly happy for you as a brother in the recording racket. :)

My father always said something like "When you buy something, get either the best one or at least the one you want. That way, you've got no reason to bitch about it later."

Obviously, he was never into recording or mastering, but I understand his point, and it's a good one.
