I was planning on buying this soon. I will only be using it for vocals. No instrument recording. Anyone have it or used it? Is it really work the 700$ price?

id just like to get more feedback. ive done alot of research on it.

I use the K2 a lot It is a great microphone.
After about 5 months of usage it started to pop and make other noises---the cheap Russian or Chinese tubes that they use was starting to fail.
I contacted Christian Witmore at proaudiotubes@aol.com for a NOS tube it was very easy to switch the tubes out and that did solve the problem with sterling results.
So you can use your K2 until something happens (if at all) or get a replacement tube first thing and experience the silky smooth sound of a good tube in the now even better K2.

It's a nice mic. You can get it for less than $700, of course, and for the price I'm not sure how much more you can ask for.

It depends on what you want from a mic really.
The K2 is well rounded but I didn't find it to excel in any particular area.
It would be a nice, general purpose mic.

It's not hashy or sibilant, IMO, which is good, also IMO.
However, if you're looking for "a sound", something that stands out in some way, there are others to consider.

Good luck with your choice....

Oh yeah I forgot about the price and Madguitrst brought that fact up....If you shop around on the net you will find better prices than what you stated.
There is nothing wrong with purchasing a K2 used off ebay or craigs list at as much as half price. I have done this numerous times with no problems.
There is even a classified add forum here at HR post a request for a used K2 there!

I've been using a K2 for almost 6 years now and I have been very happy with it. (6 years ago I paid quite a lot more than $700 so to me that's a good deal)

It's worked on a wide variety of voices very well. The key is to let it warm up well. Turn it on a good 30 minutes before you plan to start tracking with it. Makes a big difference.

I've been told that when you first get a new tube microphone that you should leave it on for a few days so as to let it settle in.
I never did that, so maybe it's just a urban (mic) myth.

What is your signal chain beyond the microphone?
