The Ghost of FM

Hi Boys and girls! :)

This here is a little tune I wrote a few weeks back when I had the Chicken Pox and it's called;

The Plague

I'm over the Pox now and am feeling much better but, while under the spell of the affliction, I was feeling a might feisty and this song probably reflects some of that emotion?

This track was done on my TASCAM MS-16, one inch, reel to reel, mixed through an old TASCAM analog mixing console called the M324B which is a custom assembled board and mixed down to a Pioneer CD recorder.

The track features my friend Doug on Guitars and dialog vocals and me on pretty much everything else.

You comments on mix and composition are much appreciated.

Cheers! :)

Sounds good, Ghost. I like the keys and bass, especially. Chickenpox in adults is generally alot more serious than in kids. Glad you're o.k. Sounds like you put your sickness to good use! :)

Lucky for you these pox were not so bad that they turned you into a real ghost (i only like a chicken when it's fried....sorry for the veggies, I'm a meat-eater)
Anyway, nice tune.....a sort of macabre melody but not really dark...like it
The only thing that would make it better for my taste is if there would be a little more dynamic difference between the verses and choruses. I mean the instrumentation and/or arrangement in the choruses should be somewhat stronger to lift the chorus up from the total song.
Another small thing is that at some points the lyrics are a bit hard to follow, but that's probably because english is not my first language.
On the whole I'd say "Praise The Pox" for they got you the inspiration for this very pleasant track!

That's way cool, Ghost! Much more pro than anything I do. A very good mix and good sound. A bunch of old analog stuff, eh? That's way cool and old school!

Your new avatar looks so much like one of the hoodlums in my wife's family! I think it's nice, though.

Very nice indeed. I always try, but can never write as dark as that. My friend tells me that I write from a happy heart. His lyrics would make you avoid him in a dark alley. He envies my stuff and I envy his. Together we cover most of the bases... When I try to write darker, it sounds contrived..
Nice work, Ghost, even if your avatar scares me! LOL!
I can't say one bad thing about it...

It's very nice, Ghost. I'd personally like it to build a little more - maybe holding the strings back until the second chorus. The bell is a nice touch, maybe a bit too loud. I'd like to hear some background vocals behind the chorus, too - or some kind of pad.

Creep

Thanks to everybody who checked out the track so far. Your feedback is very much appreciated and a special shout out to Mon-senior Creep for his excellent arrangement and production ideas for the track.

Top shelf!

Cheers! :)

You sure got the creative gene Ghost! I dig it.
It's knida Deep Purple-y. I really like the bell tolling for the pox ridden.

Not that there's a direct comparison, but this made me think of, (and I had to go look it up), The Riverbottom Nightmare Band from the movie Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas.

Thanks for the comparison but, I've never heard of this band or the movie?

Do you have a link to the music? I'm kind of curious now! :)

Cheers! :)

got to love this one Ghost! You really captured the drama of the illness in the instrumentation. Nothing bad about this one. I love it all.

I think a bass sound that is waaaaay cool would help, since it is such an important part of the song.

I hear a much ranchier gtr too... playing wise.... like a Randy Rhodes kinda style. It is probably the Bsabbath bell sound that makes me think that.

I think this is one of those songs, where a producer MUCH smarter than me would say..."hey..do this...that..." give some guidance and direction. Then the tune is a hit. I hear that very plainly. The performances are pretty much there, but just the wrong sound and feel. The synth sounds being so "canned" sounding don't help either. Yeah...there's alot there, but for some reason, sounds home brew and not big boy.. But that potential is REALLY there.... just oozing to squeeze thru.

Cool!

Like the song. I think this could be turned into a much heavier more aggressive song with a few tweeks and some compression.
