Well...I like this mix a lot better.....the horns definitely are more up in the mix....I don't think it's too much; they sound about right to me.....and I, personally like the bass better on this mix......I'm not hearing a real problem with the buzz, but I have to burn a CD and go listen on my reference system....but it sounds better to me and I do like the horns better like this.

I had cut some 2-4k out of the sax. I believe that is why is didn't cut through. I just did a quick remix giving that back to the sax. I also gave a large part of the bass cuts back. The buzz almost seems to fit in to the mix with that drone going on in back. So if you've got a minute to let me know if it's better or worse now, I'd appreciate it.

better! nice adjustments man..

my favorite part is the drone sound going on in the background.

The sax has a different ambience than the gtr solo parts that seem pretty different from each other...not that that really matters, but adds an "artificialness" to the mix. But what is real anyway??

I had to "listen" to really hear the bass part. It blended well, but as an instrument on its own, was hard to hear...no biggie, really.

nice stuff.

smooth and sweet like honey. bass is better, can hear more of the string winding but I wouldnt let the top stick out too much. The horns are singin'. The harmonies with those two hook chords? Damn!!! :)

Way better! Way more clarity, and I don't hear any buzz, I mean there are moments in the quiet parts where there is something that sounds like it could be a buzz, or is it a sax droning or something? Either way, it fits with the middle eastern flavor of the song. And now, people can turn back on the bass boost button on their stereos :).

Great job,
macle

I gotta go to work soon but...

Lt. Bob- Good. Glad you're cutting through better! Thank you.

Sam- Thank you very much for the second listen! I appreciate it.

mixmkr- Thanks man. I'm not sure what to do about any of your suggestions. Still kinda trying to make sens eof them, but maybe when I listen in the truck it will come to me. Thanks!

Toki- Thanks a lot man. Are you saying that the top is sticking out to much? Thanks man!

macle- And thank you macle. I'm gonna listen on something beseides monitors today and hopefully I'll like it too. :) I'm going to check out your remix after work tonight. Thanks again.

not at all... It`s just enough now that you can hear most the real voice of the Ped now. Any more and it might become distracting. It`s all gelled to me.

Liked the first version, and I like this one. Really nice work.

I think the saxes moved the song more toward 'urban/sophisticated'. Interesting.

I've been concentrating on the words tonight. More of the song's revealing itself, and a lyric sheet would help as well, but I don't think I'll ever get it entirely. I keep trying out the song from different viewpoints to see if it could be sung from either side - except for the line about the towers, loads of the lines could be sung by either them or us. Intentional?

Dobro, it's very cool how much thought you put into this stuff. Without getting too much into politics (especially the ones surrounding that day), partly because I never feel like I have the whole story anyway, the song was written from an American citizen's perspective. I am of course an American citizen. I believe I had also written into the lyrics some of my own personal distrust of the current administration with phrases like "So soon, and someone to blame." At the time I was impressed by how quickly the administration had put Osama's face all over the scene. It wasn't that I believed that it wasn't OBL, it's just I wasn't exactly comforted by GW's leadership, and I felt a massive propaganda machine getting oiled up and ready to go.
"...crossing the ocean to fight, to deliver messages of might..." was a line to describe US retaliation- again part of my confusing distrust for the administration and of hatred for someone who could do something so evil as what Al Qaida did that day. "Messages of might"... There's been an air of arrogance leaking from our country, and I have feared just how much of that can be reflected by just a few men with power, and I always worry how much the American people are associated with that around the world.
There was also all this talk about holy war, and I knew the only possible responses to this was going to be a shitload of war, and that "holy" and "war" don't belong in the same sentence. "Your wars are unholy and you should change." Simple, but I think truthful.
It certainly isn't like a "from our government to yours" message, but rather more from our people to OBL, regardless of anything GW had to say. I'm no political genius, I just get feelings about people.

But mostly the song was just a way to vent, and to once again put music to something that meant something to me, and it became my first real home recording when i realized I had been doing nothing with music.

So no it wasn't really intentional, but I must agree with you, that the song could probably be sung by more than just Americans.

Thanks for listening Dobro.

Cheers, Sluice. I appreciate that. I'll get more out of the song now. I might even change my own evil ways - whenever somebody asks me what one of my songs means, I always evade the question, or make a joke out of it, or just refuse.

damn this sounds good tom! nothing to comment on other than it sounds great to me just as it is.

Hi there...back from vacation...just popping in to say (I will stay off the board for just a little while, still got some personal problems to fix):

THANKS A LOT, GUYS!

I'm not in my best moods these days, but this thread made me intensely happy.

And errrrrrrrr...some random statements:

1. I meant photons, not protons....little typo there. Excuse me.

2. Tom and I nailed the buzzing problem (it wasn't my monitor, it had something to do with bitrates). I hope he'll post a new mix soon...

3. I love my wife (and her amazing womanship)

4. I love Lt. Bob (and his amazing musicianship)

5. I love SluiCe (and his amazing musicianship)

6. I love this song. Can you imagine, I've listened to this song +150 times and 1. it still doesn't bore me and 2. I still haven't turned my 'lyrics-switch' on! It's so interesting, musically! It just occurred to me that Tom sings 'assholes'....:). Musically: the way he doesn't resolve those harmony vocals in the chorus....A W E S O M E. His nonlinear approach to arranging the individual parts of the song is something I can learn a lot from, too (when practicing the part I kept on screaming "wtf, he's going to G again, I assumed it would be A" and patting myself on the head...in other words: I really liked working on this song. Very inspiring...)

7. I love this board (thank you, Slackmaster...for the sticky post with the board rules....I wholeheartedly agree with it). Some trolls aside, this board is one of the healthiest and friendliest boards I've seen...kudos to you all!

8. Going on a vacation is 'op vakantie gaan' in dutch. I thought it looked weird to translate it as 'going on a vacation'...so I decided to use the word holiday. :D

9. I had a real nice vacation. I feel inspired and motivated to make some new music again.

10. Chris, I'm working on a mix of Juliet. Don't close it yet (and if you want I'll redo the entire rhythm section, if you tell me the bpm). Anyway....please be nice to Khompy....and Khomp, be nice to Chris.

:D

Thank you, goodnight. :)

Very Unique

The buzz/drone thing almost sounds like a sitar/background thing.

This is musically over my head, but mixed extremely well.
Alot of things going on, but never "sounds" too busy.

A wonderful piece, and fitting efforts by all involved.

well...it all depends...what year is your truck and are you the first owner?

this mix sounds very good.

I always liked this song and the addons are great!

It looks like you took the low end out of the bass by looking at the bass eq chart you posted.

very enjoyable!

Erichenryus- Thanks a lot Eric. You have no negative things to say so I guess your post isn't really valid and you're just back patting. Oh well, thanks anyway brotha. ;)

Pedullist- emails, emails, and more emails. Take care of yourself. Talk to ya in a couple weeks.

Beatdaddy- haha...thank you.

It kinda is...it's actually a synth track from an older version of the song, that I just reduced in level to add dimension to the mix. Glad you enjoyed. Thanks.

mixmkr- I want to laugh, but I just didn't get that joke. It's a 2001 Dodge Ram. I mentioned it because I usually need it to help me guage bass levels. If it rumbles in the truck, it's too loud. Thanks.

JMarcomb- Thanks. That EQ screen shot was from a different mix, not the one you heard.

Thanks for listening everyone. It has been very helpful and I feel like I may have broken a little ground because of you.

Jesus Christ Almighty...........this is good!

no mix comments man....
really enjoyed everything about this tune...

the layering is outstanding...
every track seems to fit perfectly....

awesome job by all involved...
