Lost Cause
It's me again:)

A few months ago we had a little try at a lyric writing collaboration, with a song about impending suicide bombers etc. I always was a cheerful sod. It kind of fizzled out but the idea fit with what I might call something that on a dark night with a blindfold would pass for a groove.

Anyway there is an end result, and a rough demo (not Clinic quality material) is Vella on NowhereRadio

It's called Parcel. I ended up writing nearly all of it myself, although parts of lines 2 and 3 in the first verse came from folk on this bbs (thank you).

And by the way our guitarist has absented himself so I had to do it - consider yourself warned.

If anybody cares, the lyrics are:

l

Verse 1
There’s a parcel in the mail and it’s labeled with our address
They say it’s post paid, but I don’t think I’d ever guessed
We were sending away for a big brown box
Which brings home the fighting and has no time for talks
There’s a parcel in the mail and it’s labeled with our address

Verse 2
There’s a big man talking and he’s playing to the evening news
Easy on the voters, he’s the one you have to choose
But the calls he’s making are so far away
We pay tomorrow for what happened today
And the bill’s post paid from the people he took for fools

Chorus
Foreign languages, subtle messages
Things you’ll never hear
When you’re deafened by all
You hold so dear
They’ll make it clear
In the parcel they’ll send to the mailbox we can’t defend.

Verse 3
There’s a rumble on the train and we’re swaying down the losing line
…Waiting in our seats for the day the sun ain’t gonna shine
‘cause the people we gave all those lessons in hate
They got so clever and it’s far too late
To stop the package they’ll send to a mailbox we can’t defend.

Chorus

Sounds like it turned out pretty good. I'm sure it's not you singing? Just curious.....what part of the copyright do the contributors get? It's sort of a sticky subject in that respect. Good job!

Hi Garry,
Hey man, she sure can sing....very talented for sure...

Ummm..please don't be pissed but, this lyric just does not seem to fit the "groove" you picked....seems more like a rock or folk lyric....not POP....but hey, what the hell do I know...

If you feel like changing genres....
and you need a lame guitar player...
I'm your man.....man :D

I just bought a new Les Paul and am ready to rock :D

Take it easy man...

Joe - thanks for the input. Yes, I think she has a great voice and it's getting better all the time.

Most of our stuff is rock/blues - I just wanted to do something different and I deliberately wanted to mix the genres so to speak. The idea was to have this groove thing bouncing along with the words kind of floating over the top.

We are definitely looking for a guitarist - if you ever plan to relocate to London then you're in the band!!

bd - Can't imagine a share of the copyright will ever have any commercial value. Actually, in the end only half of line 2 and all of line 3 came from the original thread.

Thanks to both for the input.
