The other exciting MXL news (for me anyway) is the new omni capsules available for existing 603's and 991's. A matched pair for a whopping 50 bucks.
Can you put those omni capsules on any mxl 603 or does it have to be made for having removable capsules?

It looks like I might go to AES after all.

Yeah - me too. Maybe I'll bump into you there. Maybe MXL will have some "Cubes" to play with. I'll look up Warhead too to say "hi".

The capsule is removeable on all 603's.

They can be used with any 603 or 991.

Do you have to buy a matched pair? I only need one.
Sell the other one.

Actually, I don't know if you can buy just one - probably you can, directly from them. Call them. Their toll-free number is 1-800-800-6608. You want the "MXL 603/604 Omni Cap".

Gonna be a little weird for me. I'm going to San Francisco to do sound for a "Fringe" comedy show in a few days. Gonna drive up there from Texas this Thursday, stay till the 18th, visit my sister in Arcata, then get back to Texas around the 25th of September. Then turn around and drive back up to San Francisco to go to the AES show about a week later. About 7,000 miles of driving. Should be fun.

Harvey, time to tap into some of that "MoreMe" cash under your mattress and buy one of them there plane tickets. ;)

By the way, staying at the "Powell" is a pretty good idea as it's only $119 a night.

Actually for this first trip, we're taking the RV and it's costing us about $23 a night for those two weeks; we're staying at an RV park in San Leandro.

I don't know where we're gonna stay for AES, but we'll be in our van, Alex's MiniCooper or his Element, or a rental car for that trip.

I think I'm too damn old to be doing any more flying, especially under these new rules with my warped sense of humor.

My big mouth would get my big ass in serious trouble.

Have you seen Ben Stiller in "Meet The Parents"? Sometimes I do feel like he felt in that "bomb ba ba bomb ba bomb bomb ba bomb" scene.

I don't know man, I'm stepping onto a plane in Charlotte and 5 hours later stepping off in San Fran. Seems like as far as wear and tear on a body those car trips could be much harder! The cost of gasoline alone would get me on a plane fast...

Looking forward to seeing you no matter how you arrive.

Nah, as you get older, you wanna create things you can remember later in life, and you tend to go a lot slower and enjoy the trip. This trip on Thursday is gonna be about 4,000 miles long, and I'm really looking forward to it - a lot. Gonna stop and really smell the roses this time.

Sounds more like a nightmare. How many times could you hear "It depends" as the answer to your questions?

So, back to the original topic - has anyone tried out the new MXL Cube LDC mic? Date-wise, it should be available now.

???

i grew up in the bay area...and i can tell you that if you don't want to stay IN san francisco, take a look just south in pacifica - there's some really nice beachfront hotels that are a lot less than those in SF, and it's only a 15-20 min. drive into the city

Ahem...

Musician's Friend is listing them as "due in 9-22-06," so I don't know if they are shipping from anywhere yet.
