Above is the final mix I am delivering to the band (reference: https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?s=&threadid=97942)

Had to just get this done. They weren't paying me enough to try to make it "radio ready" or anything, more like they paid for a "faders up" mix, but they got this. Good deal for them, but my girlfriend feels neglected!

I think the biggest problem with this recording is that none of the mic placements were done to benefit the recording, and there was no sound check with the band before they started playing, and the fact that I couldn't listen to what was being recorded at all. :( Few of the tracks actually sound the way I would want them to. Oh well. It came out fairly good for what it is.

This being the recording of this bands first gig together, they should be pretty happy with it eh? ;)

The Intro guitar seems a bit fuller, I'm getting more in the right stereo field.

The drums sound great, a bit more polished and the vocal entrance is generally cleaner as I think the drums are tamed a bit here. More compression ?

At 0:56, the guitar riff and lead vocal are mixing more 'together'.

I'm at 02:34 now, and it seems you tamed the cymbals a bit, and generally brought the drums down a bit in the mix and I like that, it lets you bury the singer a bit more in the guitars ? ;-)

I think one of the best things going for the tune is the isolated direct acoustic being placed stereo right, probably as we would hear that at a live gig, but a live gig of course we would not be hearing any definition in that at all.

So the 'live' sound, and then the character of the acoustic is something unique here.

Overall I really just detect a bit more polish on this mix, and no, it's no turd by any means, it's very listenable. Bass seems smoother also.

Cool tune, wild lead break at 2:21, really nice solo.

I think the bass is down in the mix, could come up a tad for my liking.

Nice song, sounds like Queensryche to me.

Sounds good to me. Solid rock sound. I liked the echo effect on the opening guitar.

The weakest link to me mix wise (not playing or anything) is the right panned electric guitar in or near the choruses. It get's a bit too edgy and dry hanging out on the right.

Hard to beleive this was recorded live.

you got just enough room under there to for a bit more kick and a slight touch of bass for me, jus a little more foundation. Everything else is spread out and up real nice, like a big canopy. Clean man, real clean.

Too bad you had no control over the tracking. That sucks. Been there myself;)

Mix sounds good though. Clean, and balanced. Yeah there's some clams in there (the bass in the beginning really stands out) but it's a good live representation of the band.

Good job!:)
