in my holidays last week I just couldn't help taking the mic in that little karaoke-bar...
maybe it was the pints I had drunk before but it sounded a whole lot better than the vocal-mixes I do at home - and I bet those karaoke-guys don't have hyper-expensive mics or something like that. so what is it? soooooo much reverb?
is there anybody familiar with karaoke-gear?

I have a close friend that owns a karaoke business, On several occaisions he has asked me to run his equipment when he could'nt make his show. Here's what I've discovered.....

Yes, the fact that you (and everyone else) are drinking has alot to do with the way you perceive how the vocals sound.

Other things to consider are:
1: Room acoustics
2: Reverb and other effects
3: The energy that a "live" audience gives you
4: If you make a mistake, it's over and done.... and you can make up for it in the rest of your performance. If you make a mistake during a recording, it's there FOREVER until you correct it.

I sing karaoke on a regular basis and have won several contests.
My "live" performances seem to come naturally and I always get lots of compliments on my vocals. But, when I'm in the studio I have to do several takes to get my vocal tracks done properly.
I consider myself an "average" singer, but I seem to score BIG with those who are "under the influence".

Remember, the difference between a "good" performance and a "great" performance in a karaoke-bar is about 6 pints. :D

I own a karaoke buisness

The preamp in some of those machines are ok and the reverb helps you blend in better too. We use shure sm58s mostly.

So you could say that with a professionally done cd-g If you get the mix right(which isnt very hard to do) you can make a performance sound better than most bands being mixed in a bar.

The pitch is even Idiot proof. If someone is off key the music can be put to the key they are singing in.

Lots of alcohol can make up for the little mistakes.

Buck what material do you sing up there.

I do

Meatloaf
John Melloncamp
Bob Seger
Springsteen
Etc..

I can emminate these guys so well . Ive been told that Its just like the records.

And Ive won championships in Branson and for the Kansas city area
