Thanks mate, they are only 1 1/2 hrs down the Freeway from me, although I am trying to set certain things up that will give me access to gear at wholesale..................hopefully the next month or two may see that come to fruition.

Man, you guys really need to pay a visit to the States sometime. :)

I got an idea: Why don't all of you Australians put together a list of the gear you want . . . and I'll buy it for you at decent American prices. In return, you can all just split the cost of flying me out and putting me up for a few nights so I can deliver your gear. It doesn't have to be anything fancy . . . just as long as I'm not going to get attacked by any rabbid kangaroos, eaten by sharks, or get hunted down by Steve the Crocodile Hunter.

Chess,

Quite often, once the $exchange rate is applied, shipping and import duty added on, there is not enough of a saving to make the excercise worthwhile.......there are exceptions, but not too often.
This of course changes if someone is personally bringing items with them in their luggage, but I think your air fare and accomodation outweighs the shipping on a pair of ECM8000s or MXL603s:) ............sorry 'bout that.

And thank God, Steve the crock hunter isn't typical of Aussies.........if there were too many like him roaming the country, I think I'd move overseas.:D

Yeh, I've heard prices in the States for a british channel of $250.00
Its just that our dollar is worth half that of your. We can thank Paul Keating (ex aussie treasurer then prime minister) for floating the aussie dollar in the mid 80s. Our dollar was worth the same as the US at that time. But dickhead Keating thought that we aussies can compete with slave labour in asia where there paid 50 cents an hour. And obviously we cant directly compete so our dollar dived and hasn't stoped. Add to that a huge import duty on this kind of electrical equipment and $895.00 actually is a bargan here folks. Damn.

One thing that took a few days to get used to was that joemmek eq knobs are the other way round. So left to right is "top-mid-low". I think its a british thing. However Im totally used to it now.

What if he smuggles the stuff in. Im sure they won't check his bags if hes flying out of the US.

you still have the option of coming by boat, there are ways arround this.

I wonder where he will hide the mic?

Joe Meek was a murderer...

Did you guys know that...?

Yeah, he went nuts and killed his landlord.... what a freak..

Darrin, if the mic is cheap enough I just mightn't ask where it was hidden:D

VoxV, actually I thought it was his landlady.........anyways, that's history, the gear is still great, that's what matters now:)

It's a real tragedy that Meek's mental illness led to that incident.
Kind of a dark side version of "A Beautiful Mind".
He was a true visionary genius though, and Britain's first independent record producer, so his impact is vast.
It would make a fascinating film bio to say the least.
Ted Fletcher's affordable line of photo-optical compressors
has helped keep the spirit of the 60's alive with us homereccers!

He should have killed all of the landlords, Then there would be a movie for sure.

Alan,

I've used 2 different VC3Q's. On one, the mic pre and output gain controls were detented, while the other's gain controls were smooth.

Is this indicative of a revision of sorts, and if so, are there any other differences in the hardware and should there be any audible differences?

Sorry, but I have been away for a little over a week. The detented pot vs the non is just a fuck up. There were no changes. Sometimes they run out of parts, or the supplier has a better deal on the non detented pots, so they buy them.

Not the way I would do it, but I don't make Joemeek, so...:D

The good news is the VC6Q is coming back. I convinced the UK to bring it back from the dead pool, so we should have more stock in a couple of months. Long live the VC6Q!!!

Wow, I can't beleave they even thought about dropping the VCQ6. Its like there best thing. Everyone should have two.

seriously.

Hey Joemeek, bring it back and paint it gold!

seriously.

Scott.

Gold? And to think lots of people thought that the green was ugly when it first came out. How about yellow although that has been done already in the less know Fletcher line Hooter Sound. Now that was ugly haha.

Good show Alan!
Here's for the "good things" that never go out of style; VC6Q's,
Mini-Coopers, T-Birds, and mini-skirts. (not necessarily in that order)

Well, after auditioning that ditty about Joe, I am PROUD to be the owner of a JOEMEEK unit. Now........just what the fuck was that????????? ROFL!! :o)

Is there much of a difference in tone between the different Meek pre's or is it just a matter of more features?

How good is the de-esser?

Owner of a VC6Q since today. Bought primarily as a versatile means of preamping my bass but wow.. It does miracles for my mediocre singing vox. I like this unit!

Good question Tex

I was wondering that myself. And the same with the compressors. Are they the same in all the units, other than for features, or is there a big difference in the quality?
