this is not a jab at homosexuals,

By "gayest" I mean the most upbeat, peppy, to the point of being annoying. My vote goes to a mid eighties pop tune...I don't know the name of it,but the lyrics are:

" ain't nuthin' gonna break-a my stride, no body gonna slow me down...oh no...I got to keep on mo-vin'..."

Why do I want to beat this person down???

I hate to say is,but Love me do by the Beatles is somewhere on that list as well.

J.P.

That song with 'break my stride' in the lyrics is called 'Break My Stride' (!) by Mathew Wilder, and I agree, it's pretty annoying.

Off the top of my head, I'll go for 'Wake Up Boo' by the Boo Radleys - mindless, middle of the road pap.

But you're not getting away with nominating The Beatles - you should be given an enormous Chinese burn for such blasphemy.

grrrr

I'm walkin' on sunshine....oh, oh........

But you're not getting away with nominating The Beatles

They're not at the top of the list by any stretch of the imagination!! I Looooove the Beatles, it's just that that song is too hoakie for my taste. Too "I think chicks will dig us if we sing this cutesy song..." type of tune. Could have been that generation's Mmmm Bop by Hanson.

I'm recording Love Me Do at the moment

But just because I dig the harmonica part. And plus we decided on it when I was working with a drummer who was a real amateur and Love Me Do was one we found that she could play. However, now I think the drummer's lost interest, so I'll me MIDIing the drums. Still, since I've already picked it, I may as well follow through on it. If just for the harmonica.

wake me up before you go go - wham

hands down, you won't find a gayer song

You're right. You win.

Hey mickey you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind!

Hey mickey. Whoever sings that song should be stabbed, shot, burned, then thrown in jail. :)

I've got a pretty gay one coming out on our next EP, I'll post it when I'm done.

first track on our album in the making... to give an idea, theres no lyrics but it will probably be titled "ode to skintight rainbows"

Oh yeah...to add a few..

"don't worry, but happy" -not partiularly gay,but annoying anyway.Especially if I am in a bad mood.

"shy,shy,hush-hush, eye to eye"- some eighties pop band. What an annoying hook.

Achy Breaky Heart-Billy-Ray Cyrus. Now there's a man whose career was shorter than that of Yahoo Serious (Young Einstein anyone?).

And there was a song being played on public radio not too long ago the chorus was "beautiful boys...beautiful boys..." it's sung in a very "I want to be a boyscout leader " type of way.

If you don't intend any homophobic slurrs think of another adjective instead OR use the word with its original pre 50's connotation.
" gay 1178, "full of joy or mirth," from O.Fr. gai "gay, merry," perhaps from Frank. *gahi (cf. O.H.G. wahi "pretty"). Meaning "brilliant, showy" is from c.1300. OED gives 1951 as earliest date for slang meaning "homosexual" The word gay in the 1890s had an overall tinge of promiscuity -- a gay house was a brothel. The suggestion of immorality in the word can be traced back to 1637. Gay as a noun meaning "a (usually male) homosexual" is attested from 1971."
Sorry, I just get annoyed by some language use. Guess my occupation? I'm thinking like, you know, we could of tried so...
Cheers

Of course there's Glad To Be Gay by The Tom Robinson Band & Nobody Loves You When You're Old & Gay by Dead Fingers Talk - both not matching the definition currency of the thread.

This is EXACTLY what I did in my original post.

"By "gayest" I mean the most upbeat, peppy, to the point of being annoying"

You completely lost me there...

gayest songs of all decades

I am sure that there is a "gayest" song in every decade... One that I remember at this moment is "Mambo No. 5 " by Lou Vega... You can realize that almost all of gayest song´s singers become a "one timer"...

what about "shiny happy people" by REM? I heard stipe say that REM won't even play that live because it's too gay. that's not an exact quote, but i remember stipe saying something like that.

I reckon Love Me Do is a great song with great sound. The acoustic guitars in that are awesome.

"The only way is up" By yazz...pretty gay
Oh by the way i believe 'club tropicana' by wham is infinetly gayer than 'wake me up before you go go' but all of wham for me is a pretty bad memory that id rather forget, now if you dont mind i'll just be bodding along to my music therapy session with 'happy hour' by the housemartins in my ear.....

Gummble,

Thanks for the Housemartins quote; I have it on vinyl, nutty bunch.
"My Beautiful Balloon". The key changes, the Very White Singing....make me want to mow down pedestrians.
"I'm Too Sexy for this Shirt"...Right Said Fred...truly gay (in every sense.)

Best,
CC
