Alright I retracked the chorus vocals for pitch (help me out here TripM or ChrisH)......and added a vocal harmony for the chorus (i think the low ones might not be tight enough).....does it sound better or worse??

i also took the drums down about 2 decibals and fixed that one fill w/ a slightly better sample and added
it twice.....

dobro - yep, that fill was a pretty bad sample, but i don't have any good samples for fills....i tried adding a different one

chrisharris - chris, i retracked the chorus vocal....let me know if you think if it's any better if you get a chance....thanks for checking it out....

TripleM - thanks for checking back...let me know if the chorus works better....as you are the resinant expert on pitch and harmony

renagade - thanks for checking it out man...i appreciate it....gotta love tom petty......

Sluice - yeah, i felt like for a few months i was in a bit of a creative rut..partly do to a move...partly due to too much work.....i decided i really needed to write more.....hope i'm not flooding the borad :D...glad you like it tom, thanks...

groucho - i worked on the pitch (it's still not great) and dropped the drums a bit...thanks for checking it out......

thanks everyone

Ah... those drums sound perfect now. And damn nice drum sounds by the way - I don't think I would have known they were loops.

Man, this sounds great! And the "pitchiness" isn't really a huge issue for me. I'll take character and emotion over perfect pitch any day - and you've damn sure got that.

Great!

Chris

Nice job, Mr. Finger. Audibly speaking, the guitars and soundstaging is quite pleasing to the ears. As of this last mix you have posted, the bass is still a bit weak, but when the bass is pushed up a bit, the balance against the drums is there. There is this one nasty little bass note that resonates big time throughout the piece, just because it does, but a very narrow Q parametric EQ pull at around 85hz tames it so it fits jussss' so fine. :) I personally would like the mix a bit wetter, but this is a personal preference. I also feel this mix might benefit from mild stereo expansion, and some gentle multiband compression in the 20-120hz range, and then again between the 120-3200hz range in preparation for a mild overall compression with a touch of hard limiting to complete my personal take on improving the great vibe that is already spilling out of this effort. You have a GREAT voice, but I feel you need to use more air for production.....NOT for any volume or tone change......but for intonation/phrasing assistance which is called for here to make this excellent effort right there.
Way to go, dude. Looking forward to hear more!! ---Lee

Nice...just downloaded it for my next "Homerec Homemade Comp for the Car" :)

Irish Coffee is nice too...

Reminds me of times I've had "a tough act to follow" at open mics :)

groucho - thanks for checking the drums again.....yeah i like it better this way too.....thanks for pointing it out......i always seem to mix drums too loud......

SOUND DIAGNOSIS - thanks a ton for the multi band suggestions.....i'm just getting into learning how to use one, so that will be very helpful......thanks for the vocal tips as well......the more i record myself, the more i realize why people don't produce their own work much.......i almost need someone to sit there with me until the vocals are right.......

ChristopherM - thanks for the kind comments.....glad you like Irish Coffee...i need to get back to some open mics

Very nicely done man. I think I got version 2 where the drums seemed a little upfront. I can't find a thing wrong with this other than that in the cans at work. This is a nice song and sounds great. I think I need to dl version 3 and add this to the keepers folder.

Very nice job and very enjoyable to listen to!!

I like it!!

Very nice indeed. No mixing comments. It's very nice.

Jagular & Pedullist - thanks for checking it out guys.......

This is great. I love the laid-back feel, and the verse is really good. I definitely hear Tom Petty.

There is some pitchiness on some of the vocals, especially the long notes in the chorus. Personally I like it, it sounds honest, but if you can tighten it up (or cheat with Autotune like I do) it might give the track a smoother sound.

On my monitors the bass is really boomy - probably the note SOUND DIAGNOSIS was talking about. Some EQ should sort it out. Might just be my monitors though.

I love the acoustic/electric thing too. The instrumental guitar bits between the verses should definitely be a bit louder, and maybe need a touch of EQ to bring them forward when the vocal isn't there?

More harmonies would be good in my opinion.

Drums sound great, and the level is much better with the most recent mix.

I'd like to hear a bit of development in arrangement as the track progresses. Maybe bring in/drop out some guitar parts, stick in some acoustic percussion for some bits, whatever. Just to give a bit of variety to the structure. But that's just my taste.

Really nice feel - good stuff.

Cheers

Very pleasing sound right off the top. Bass sounds cool, but might be a bit hollow. I Like the bright cymbals, maybe a bit too edgy. Good kick in the chorus.

I think the guitar leads should be up where the vocals are, but that's just me.

This is very well done! Only major complaint is the leads are a little low in the mix. Sounded really good.
