Very cool, man...I listened to the new mix - 1.26.12. The mix sounds great to me...everything is clear and well-balanced. I love the textures and how you bring in lots of different elements throughout to keep it interesting. There's something about the section from 1:22 - 1:31 that left me wanting to hear a different type of production there...I'm not sure what, and I hate to say that it sounds like it needs a master telephone EQ treatment or beatbox percussion, because those options seem overused and abused, but something like that is what my ears were craving...something to differentiate that section production-wise from the rest of the track. I felt similar in the 2:30 - 2:40 area as well, although I wouldn't do the same thing in both...hopefully I'm not being presumptuous offering production suggestions in a mix forum.
But while I'm being presumptuous...One other production idea that jumped into my mind as I listened was that I think it would sound really cool with doubled vocals an octave higher in the refrain...the part that says something like "It's all a joke...". I think octaves might be really cool and call it out in a cool way.
This was a great listen...kept my ears happy the whole way through
Very Best,
oh thats it dude
snare sounds much better imo...the oooo's really add to it..I could hear them before in the background but up front they really work
Id love to add some FX to this...did you track it in Reaper or outboard?
A new Heat original, ace!
Sounds great man, I love it. I'd have said that the female vocals needed a boost, but you've addressed it. Nice breaks, layers and melody - great work.
What have you lifted from Willy Wonka by the way? I can't identify it. Also, just out of interest what's the bowed cello-y sounding line you've got at various points during the tune? Sounds like an e-bow or something?
Snare is better for sure.
Good work,

me likey!
I like long songs ..... and quiet walks on the beach.

Ooos are better. Maybe a db or so too loud now.
I listened a little more carefully to the low end this time. I compared it to a pro mix that I consider to have a strong low end. And your bass and kick were much louder than that one. You might want to compare against some of your favorite pro mixes to see what you come up with.
Once again - the song is really cool. Probably my favorite of yours.
Nice-Good feel. I like the bass tone, carries the verse just fine. Good vocal-voice sits well in the mix and good performance. The drum beat....hmm theres like a shuffle sound-a percussion sound in the beat i dont like. Seems like the drums could be helped and define this whole mix better, some crunch and verb on the drums...The instrumental breaks seem lacking-you could get really get off with the psychedelic layering-but they stick to pretty simple repetition with a car alarm chaser. Seems like this could easily be a 3 min pop song and really be memorable, the length is a hinderance to multiple listens. Cool tune, good atmosphere.
Heat, the sanre...sound fine to me.
I love the bass & that's the hook really.
Lots goiong on a different times & in different spaces. I LIKE!
It could get very, vewy pysch trippy with a few tweaks too.
Cool stuff.
No problemo Heat.Excellent. Thanks for your help eck!
Hey rob! Thanks for checking in. I was hoping you would catch this and share your thoughts. Thanks for the encouragement.
I've heard of an e-bow but not sure what it is. That is done with two electric guitar tracks. My daughter and I both tried playing the part on a viola, but we weren't good enough at it to be recordable. I used a swell effect which sort of simulates when you ride the volume knob on a strat with your pinky (I can't do that trick on my SG). I also added a bunch of distortion and there's tons of amp reverb and then I EQ'd most of the highs and lows out of it. Doesn't sound like a viola, but kind of cool, right?
Here is the melody I was talking about:
From about 2:40 - 3:15 I was trying to play that on the lead guitar (chopped up a bit rhythm-wise to fit this beat). Thanks again.
Cheers Pete - how on earth did I miss that first time round??? I think I was listening out for a sample rather than the melody line played by you. It's a good addition though, and I definitely wouldn't try and make your tunes shorter - they need to build up a groove and float around a while.
Thanks for clearing up the guitar line - I thought it had elements of riding the volume knob, but the sound seemed to even in volume to be that. An ebow gives off the same kind of effect I think by vibrating the strings.
Cool stuff man anyway man, my missus enjoyed it too.
