Looks like a fun build, but don't let the guys in the drum forum get wind of it- they will rip you a new one, and say that if it ain't made by some "instrument company," it ain't a musical instrument.

Greg L is the worst of the bunch.
Got to say that what the guys in the drum forum think of this would be meaningless to me. And I doubt if they give a shit either.

Yeah..... no fooling. Can you make up a nice percussion instrument at some point in the future CrazyDoc?

I found a plastic tray at the dollar store, and cut it to fit .

I needed some fret thingies - not really for frets, as you don't fret this type of guitar - more as position markers. These would do the trick.

After some paint and slots cut, the frets were installed.

I made some formica sides, glued a hand rest (plastic bowl) on the cover, painted, and put it all together. Here's the front.

The end (pun intended) result. And yes, it sounds like shit - I was very disappointed in the bottom end.

Screwed some screws.

Yeah, that's usually the best thing to do with 'em...

Nice build. I am thinking that if I didn't know of it's humble origins, I might never guess what it originally was. Of course, that might change if I saw it in person.

Anyway, I commend you. I personally find builds like yours, and the Tele made from all found objects (mostly a cast-off copy machine) to be much more interesting than the "I build an exact copy of a (insert name of expensive, high-end guitar here)" builds. Anybody with a Star Trek duplicator could build one of those- yours didn't exist until you made it.

Hornby 00 frets?
The end result is really cool.
No bottom end? Too tight a seal between the GLUEttimous & the SEATing?
PLEASE post a sample (in an appropriate specimen container)!
