The coolest thing you ever picked up at a Garage sale?

I never scored big at garage sales. (maybe I should get out more)

But my drummer's girlfriend walked in the other day with an SM58 she found at a yard sale, and asked us if it was worth the $1 she paid for it. We plugged it in on the spot, and it worked perfectly. (of course, they're indestructible, right?)

And my sister found a Gibson prototype guitar, only a handfull made, (with a Firebird body, but different electronics, on board compressor and expander) for $40. It appraised at about $8-900. I don't care for the feel of it (it's about a block long) but it sounds incredible.

A DX-7 II for eight pezzutos? Amazing. Really amazing.

I bought a whole garage once and before I took it home, it burned down. Just my luck.

LOL;) :D

Thank you all for playing, and thanks to GT for coining the term "Yard Sale Martyr"

Arcaxis, you almost sound like a Professional yard sale martyr!

Also, I forgot to list a few more:
AKG k100 Headphones $1
Boss EQ pedal, Arion Phaser, Boss HM pedal & shure 51 $5
Technics Turntable, working, free
Hondo 4 string baby blue bass guitar w/case $30

The Homerecording.com BBS. . . priceless!
:D :D :D

I have the buddy that makes his living buying musical instuments at yard sales... then sells them to music stores at many times... AN ENORMOUS profit...

One of his classic finds:

He spies and older looking tweed guitar case at a yard sale in nowhere Iowa. Asks the person what it is... He says, just an old guitar... He opens the case... It's a '57 Fender Strat that look like it was never played. He then asks the guy... how much??? The guy says... how about $80? My buddy says(yes he has balls)... If you take $60 it's sold... the guy takes the $60 and he gets the guitar! WOW!

He then sells the guitar at a popular Minneapolis vintage guitar store for $12,500.

All in all... he cosidered it a good ($60) investment.... the dweeb!

Ok after being clobbered I have to retract my previous post and admit the best thing I ever picked up was the girl I'm dating.
(Met her at a church rummage sale.)

How much?

(Sorry man... someone had to!)

TODAY!

I just picked up a DIAMOND BACK mountain bike with ROCK SHOCKS forks for $10, which I'm sure originally cost over $500. That's 18-speeds, grip shifters, & all that, for $10. Oh, it has a flat tire, boohoo. Ha.

AND- TWO SCHWINN AIR-DYNE exercise bikes for $35/total, but one's a minor fix-job to put the chain back on the sprocket. [EASY!]. ANYWAY, to those of you who aren't familiar with the Schwinn Air-Dyne bike, it's originally a $650 exercise bike! And, I got TWO, to add to my EXISTING ONE already, which brings my Air-Dyne bike count to THREE! [I'll be set up like an exercise CLUB soon, with all the bikes in a row!]

Sometimes garage sales are GREAT!

Plus, the last garage sale I held, about two years ago, I let go a 4-piece drum set, w/hihats HARDWARE & 1/cymbal, for $50, INCLUDING ALL BRAND NEW REMO HEADS IN-BOX, [which I think was a stupid-deal on my part, but a SWEET DEAL for the buyer!] AND TWO PA SPEAKER CABINETS w/15" woofers + Horn-mids, for, I think, another $50. Shit, I paid like $300 for those speakers, about 10 years ago! Another sweet deal for the buyers!

In retrospect, I should have held on to the new Remo heads-in-box, because I'm sure they cost me over $80/new! Oh well!

Anyway, garage sales are great. Eh, monty?;)

Monty's the KING of garage sales and flea markets! He's got a TON of stuff to brag about!

A noname wee white amp from the 70's for 50 cents. I used it in conjunction with my peavey rage for many years as my 'mini-stack' :p

Pardon me!,... what I actually got was a 21-speed mtn bike with RST shocks!

- for $10. Diamond Back, too, which is a name-brand bike that easily cost upward of $500, new, I'm sure.

Recap- I still got those TWO Schwinn Air-Dyne exercise bikes for $35, which was a bike that cost $650/new.

I really do love [some] garage sales.

A long time ago, I got a wood-mounted & laquered full size POSTER of ELVIS,... think back to Jr. High School wood shop,... that scalloped-edge, burnished wood grain & heavily laquered poster mounting that was SO POPULAR in the early-mid 70's! Oh, and it was like $2.

Likewise, I'm infamous for picking up bicycles for $10-$20, and being a bike fanatic like I am, with 4 biking- little family members, that's a deal hard to pass up!

I'll stop and look at almost every garage sale I pass.;)

i picked up scabies once from some shirts that i bought from a garage sale.
what's the price value of that?

Mucho!

Kalamazoo electric lap steel - $40
Oahu squareneck acoustic lap steel - $40
Shure SM85 stage condenser mic - $30
Boss Digital Delay pedal - $5

I once got an ADA Digitizer 4 and a BOSS GL100 for like $150.00 for the pair... waaayyyy back in like 1986-7... hard to remember that time period... the grass was sooo much greener then if you know what I mean! :D :D :D

heh... guess I should explain for those who aren't as old as me :p

ADA Digitizer 4 - Digital Delay Rack unit -- REAL nice!
BOSS GL 100 - Digital Effects Processor -- from a real sweet clean to several awsome distortion effects for the Guitar... also a rack unit... I bought a 200 watt clean power supply and an old speaker cabinate from a Marshall Stack and built it up to be my amp :)

The first album that had a 3D cover on it. Can't remember the name of the band now.

Bought it because I liked the 3D effect.

Cost a dollar. Had it appraised along with some other stuff I had and found out it's worth about $600.00 to serious collectors.

I actually like the band just can't remember there name now.

Got a Grundig stereo tube FM, and shortwave in perfect working condition. Beautifull pianolike finish, $10.00.

Also got a GoVac back pack vacuum cleaner, just like the kind real maids use, $10.00. It's the Monica Lewinsky of vacuum cleaners!!

Where do you guys find all these great musical instrument garage sales? Just lucky I suppose.

Great thread maestro, glad you like the lable.

I predict this thread will live a long long time.

BTW: This thread really should be in the Dragon Cave, it would live in infamy!!
