After 23 years of acoustic experience, I am bowing to progress!
Need advice on a starting up set up. Need portability so the 'puter is out (as a main source anyway) All kinds of music.

My first interest is the keyboard and the recorder.Acoustic sounds, electric sounds, effects, tracks, compatibility, the whole deal and of course....$

And then the always overlooked peripherals that come with any new endeavor (how many of y'all actually remembered to budget laundry quarters and snacks when you made those college years budgets?)

Bring it on!!

not trying to be rude or anything. but you even said it yourself. "the classic starting question"... dont you think its been asked 1000 times before. just go serch past posts for answers or read eveything you see and you will know from what others say about actually using things, not the untangible dream systems.

Thankyou kristian,

Point taken, offense not.

I have read a BUNCH of stuff. Also, it seems the links of many older posts send you to a general page. To clarify the possible untangible question:

I plan on starting with a keyboard, a hard disk recorder and the obvious peripherals:
monitors and/or headphones, a mic, cable, and some storage medium.
A) am I missing something that I will find crucial upon returning home to Mexico where everything that plugs into a wall is 10-25% more expensive than in the states where I will buy? (IF in Mexico the "crucial thing" is available in the first place!)
B) Based on the PRESENT state of the industry (I already looked for a recorder mentioned in a post and found out it's out of production!) what is the "experience consensus" on some versatile basic gear, specifically a keyboard and a recorder
C)What gear has been found to hold up/not hold up in relatively extreme conditions such as altitude or lots of travel (of course in a good case!) humidity at outdoor hits...DUST in the air (in Mexico you have to sweep DAILY in many places to live without coughing or having that subtle color tint on your clothes and furniture!)
