At the Musician's Friend web site, I clicked "Recording" then "4 to 12-Track Digital Workstations," which produced 13 results...6 of them being all-in-one recording packages. For somebody with zilch for experience, and getting antsy to record (computer setup or not), which of the all-in-one recording packages would really be the best bang-for-the-buck? How well would they interface with a 20" Intel Core Duo iMac, whenever I get around to being able to afford one?

I'm looking to record original surf guitar instrumentals, for my first effort, and if I can keep myself more to the original 1960s surf guitar "flavor," I should be able to get away with needing less available tracks, at least initially. Perhaps if I go for the iMac, in late June/early July, instead of a Fender Jazzmaster, I'd manage to wait until I could buy Logic Pro for it. Otherwise, I'm trying to think of the quickest way toward actually getting down to the business of recording my original creations...everything else I can piece together, as I can afford to add more goodies...hardware and software wise.
