Hi everyone,

Moving soon and letting go of the analog studio.

What is the best for the dollar spent. Of course money is always the object but, when it comes recording ease and quality, I will try to get the best for the dollar.

First and foremost, Software.

Native Instruments?, Cakewalk? Cubase?, etc. What DAW should I get?

I am mainly a guitaist and write and compose my own music. I use MIDI (not guitar) keys for background sounds and electronic drums for the drum mix. I want to record directly through software with my guitar and look for the best software effects for the guitar. Guitar Rig?

I am also running a Tascam FW-1884 mixer for the software.

Recommend?

Thank you and God bless,
Craig

May want to check out the Presonus StudioLive 16.4.2.
Just bought one about 6 months ago and have used it in the studio and for live shows(about 20).
It comes with "Studio One" software which has Guitar Rig included.
Just replaced about 200 lbs of analog gear with this unit and the sound quality is excellent.
Presonus includes excellent tutorials and took me about a week to really get it dialed in.
If you've been working with analog gear the transition is pretty smooth because a lot of the boards features will be intuitive.
You get a lot of bang for the buck (2000.00) with this unit.

Thank you Cyparski. I will look into it.

In your case with wanting to do mostly midi and guitar modeling, I'd say Logic would probably be the best bang for your buck.
