Between being and nothing
This friend of mine has been waiting patiently for me to let him have a go at this tune. After tearing my hair out, I've decided to let him have at mixing it. Before I did, I did one more mix and uploaded it to my brand new website. I've lowered the key, slowed it down a bit. Personally, I think it sounds kinda blah, so if I get too many negatives on this, I think I"ll just let it go.

I've encoded this in Ogg Vorbis. And I've uploaded it onto my own website. If you REALLY need to hear this in MP3 format, let me know.

Kick my ass!

Just wanted you to know I tried to go to your site but the firewall objected to the word "tits" embedded in the URL - I got the dreaded "bad bad Phyl" message.

Is this posted anywhere else on the web?

hey shaky:

I've heard a little about Ogg Vorbis, but never tried playing one before. A quick try with WMP didn't work. How do you play these files? I think mp3 might be a better format for posting to a group.

Groucho - Winamp will play it.

I remember this song from a while back. This is a much better version. Interesting song.

Still some pitch issues with the vocals here and there. Pretty heavy reverb... How about double tracking them? Might be a difficult song to do that way, but I think it would really add a nice touch to a song like this.

There seems to be some kind of encoding quirkiness begining at about 3:00 and continuing off and on until about 3:30.

Interesting. Nice song, I'd like to hear the vocals without the echo.

There are some strange things going on here. The drums and bass are a million miles away, and the highhat is up there with the vocals. After a quick listen I wonder what it would sound like with just the vocals and keys with some mild "hall" reverb.

[EDIT] btw, i really liked the bridge.[/EDIT]

Ah. Well Shaky: post again if you get an mp3 up. I like hearing everybody's stuff but I'm not about to download a new player for it.:)

Cheers,
Chris

Thanks all!

Hey Triple M, I was alittle disconcerted about some of my pitch issues, actually. I lowered the overall pitch of the song just so it would be easier for me to sing. I also placed all that reverb on my vocals so that the pitch uses could be disguised a little bit - I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad! :p I have a feeling I may be trying tojo hard, I dunno. That encoding quirkiness may actually be the wave file - Some distortion kept coming up during playback of that part of the song, and I didn't know how to get rid of it.

Doug H, I think the way I mixed it may have something to do with it. I was trying all kinds of different effects on the tracks and frankly, my multitracker kept crashing on me whenever I changed some the effects  Hmmm...back to ye drawing board on that, I guess.

I did about 8 takes for my friend. He'll probably like a different take than what I used, or maybe resolve the pitch issue with a little cut and paste...hmmm...

Hey, interesting song. I like the effects on the vocals but I think the mix would be vastly improved if the music kind of wrapped around the vocals more. As it is, the music sounds kind of like it's off in the distance and the vocals are all alone up front. I was picturing this as more a kind of unified swirl of sound & I can imagine it being very effective if everything was "together" more.

And after doing a little reading on Ogg Vorbis I'm thinking of exploring that more. I've always despised mp3 as a format (I always get flak for my 320 kbps encoding but 128 is so freakin' awful!), but it seems to be so generally used I've just accepted it at this point.

Anyway, cool song. Thanks for sharing.

Chris
