nice.. i liked the original alot and this came out really good. Very cool the detailed description of what was done, i found that quite helpful. You guys both did an awesome job on this. My favorite of yours Snake.

Take care

Snake you did good man! not every day I get a baby like this to play with. If you ever redo the vocals I'd glagly take another smack at it.

To start with I wanted the snare and floor tom on their own to add their own reverd but things didn't turn out too bad with all the brass on the kit in there too. Like I said in the email...I was pretty amazed at how close our drum sounds were when I listened back to my final mix.

Happy Mondays/charlatans/Flowered Up/Beastie Boys/ Ben Folds Five and a whole lot of others came to mind when I first heard your mix. I think someone mentioned I managed to keep the original Snake vibe, that's what drew me to it in the first place. It's been a total plaesure, Sir...hope we can do it again sometime.

Alec

Thanks Gary for the listen and comments :)

Alec, thanks man... when writing the song and for my mix, I did some preediting on the drums (compression + verb) and other than that I just spent more time than usual getting the tones, sounds, volumes I wanted ahead of time on the guitars/amps. So after it was recorded and it was mixing time it was almost already mixed. I really liked what I heard so I did little editing and thought it sounded better mixwise than anything I'd done yet so I stopped... then your mix came along and I'm thinking, wow there's a lot more I could have done with it to clean it up and so on... I've learned a lot already messing with some of you ideas above...

One of the main inspirations when writing/mixing the song was the chilli peppers' blood sugar sex magik CD, mainly "Suck my Kiss" I really dig the aggresive driving bass sound they had in that song and went for something like that.

I'll give the vocals another shot and let you know how that turns out... I'll keep the groove going will be working on some similar funk projects soon too so when you hear them just let me know if you'd like to mess with em, you're more than welcome to ;)

Trouble With The Computer

TROUBLE WITH THE COMPUTER or server,
The link didn't go to Soundclick but bought up a download dialogue box. From the link I tried to get the tune Despite clicking play it downloaded but WMplayer didn't recognise it. I then tried clicking download & it stalled with 1 meg to go.
After all the posts I was looking forward to listening.
Cheers

cheers Dog...am wasted but read and tuned in to what you're saying....love the RHCPs and try to do that minimanlist everything in its place production when I can...5 guitars, I was layin them across each other when they dropped in and out.

I think a clean vocal with no weedwhacker movements could nail this song, and a backin vocal of only the parts you need some strength behind could work wonders. I think what you gave me was great and I hope what I posted about the mix helps more people than posted about trying new stuff.

When I grow up I'm gonna have my name at the bottom of your CDs

Thanks man for the try, it's probably soundclick, it goes down all the time. You can try again soon or maybe if you just went to my page at the link below that'd do the job.. Cheers

Cheers Tree... yeah I'm kind of wasted now too but I hear you. I've been trying to cut down on the number of guitars lately, like thinking of it as how a whole band would play the electric on a single track.. that didn't happen in this mix though.

I love the way that RHCP CD is mixed and play, but it's just so tempting to keep adding guitar tracks

Good idea on the vox, I was just trying that as kind of a doubletracking test, but for the next try I'll just do that for some parts. Another thing, I have to memorize these crazy lyrics, I cannot play this song live right now, and part of the noise is me throwing around that lyrics sheet in front of the mic! :D

Yeah man, good info up there, you are the mix master as far as I'm concerned... and I'll stick that LemonTree sig on any single of this song I give out to people ;)

Snake -
Straight through from your page link NO PROBS.
PURE PUNK FUNK.
The Happy Monday shouldn't reform now.
I think the horn sample & line are classics
It's a really agressive remix isn't it?
The Vocals remind me a little of Richard Hell...
Excellent work gentlemen - collaboration can be damnation but it can also , well, EXCELLENT.
Cheers

Hey thanks a lot man for the kind words. Haha, I just meantioned in another thread how I don't get too many vocal comparisons, and now that's two today  :) I don't think I've heard Richard Hell, so I'll have to check that out.
I tried to give the song a little bit of a cheesy 80s cop action show feel with those horns... I like how it turned out so you can expect them back sometime soon :D
Love the new mix, clean and powerful against my sort of raw and dirty... I'll keep working on this song too, clean up the vox some, fix a few things and let LemonTree know.. Thanks again ;)

good tune.. this sounds a lot better than the 20ft roach tune that still echoes in my head whenever I see your name! :D love the vox around 4!

the tune is cool but I'm getting some brain darts maybe from the mix being pushed a little too hard.. I get it sometimes from my own stuff too.. I like the vocals better when it's one voice.. one of the guitars, actually the one you hear in the intro has a little too much treble in it imop.. also it sounds like the mic overloaded a few times during recording maybe.. or maybe a deeser thing.. not a huge thing but a thing.. I wanted to be able to make out the lyrics better than I was able to.. not louder vocal, more of a clearer thing.. maybe

Oh hey man, didn't realize there was a new post here. Thanks for checking it out and commenting.

I agree with you about the vocals, I recorded a few new takes with a single more clear (better recorded/less noise) vocal track, and like it better. It also helped a lot to have the lyrics memorized, rather than reading off a sheet. For the chorus I have a "female backup singer" coming in (GORTY STAY AWAY :p :p ), so I won't be singing with myself... we'll see how that sounds.

Thanks again ;)

Just listened to your recent remix Snake -it's great - much bigger, cleaner, thicker, more bottom than the original. Vocals and guitars are really good....still like the horns too....You put a lot of different parts/instruments/vocal effects in this and it really keeps it interesting....Never change you rock!

Thanks a lot ido, yeah I consider my original mix pretty raw like most of mine, I hope to use a lot of the tricks above for future/past recordings... really I never thought with my gear that I could have a cleaner sound, but now I know :D

Glad you dig the song too! Don't worry, you can place some bets that I'll always be a huge dork :D :)

Sorry guys, but she's kind of busy managing "the snake" if you know what I mean ;) :p
Well you know... for example when I have lyrics written down and am swinging them around in front of the mic, and probably hitting it too :D

Hey everyone, LemonTree had some fun with the original tracks to this and came up with his own mix... let us know any comments/thoughts you have on it :)
I'd also like to figure out what he did and try another mix myself sometime :D

Thanks!

He did a really nice job!! Lots of space, but still lots of power and punch.

You still gotta watch that guy though; he'll whack ya with a pint of Guinnes if you're not watching. :) :)

By the way, yes, I'm back.. :)
