I found a few uses for the 3630 other than doorstop,coffeetable,step-ladder etc. Forget about it in the area of compression,but it does produce some strange
and crazy bass effects.If you hook up the 3630 into a channel insert plug in your bass,set the thresh and ratio
@ .20 and 1.1 respectively, use a .1ms attack with 50ms release,disengage the gate and roll-off freq at 75hz you get a airy "Cello-like" harmonics tone similar to cathedral like chamber music. OR, if you set gate at 1.5ms and thresh/ratio at infin-.1;attack/release@1.5 and 1.1ms respectively,increase EQ freq-gain at approx 60hz with a little 'verb,it produces a deep,harmonic "FOOOSH" sound like a deep jet flange but less "WOOOOSHIER"!.
Now that you all have finished laffin' and with thought's of
"Dude,you gotta get a life!",I just felt that with enuff patience,1 can find a viable use for the 3630 other than what the product is intended for. 'Cause the 3630,sure doesn't work in the field of compression,but with experimentation,it does produce some cool bass effects.
Try it if you own 1,and if not, you wanna buy mine?? Dirt Cheap!!!! :)
 
Oh Hell do I feel stupid..... the 3630 is a COMPRESSOR, I read too rapidly sometimes. I thought it said COMPACTOR. I've been trying to compact my trash with it!
 
Hey man,that's anutha' good idea! I never thought of using it as a COMPACTOR!

My wife thinks my two 3630's are sexy:(...but what the hell does she know. Thank the lone Ranger I still got my composer pro! Hey Q I'll trade ya these two 3630's and a "Tom Jones" cd for that 'real nice compressor' you got welded down in that rack:D
 
How about my 3630, a Zoom 505,and a Nady eq,for your TOM JONES c/d (only if "She's a lady" is on it)??
 
Well hell....I'll raise you..... a Nano comp and Nano verb COMBO.... throw in a RNC COOOOL faceplate (crazy glued to the Nano crap)......mounted on a rack shelf. FOR: Tom cd and a date with Britney ( or a date with Tom and a Brit cd - your choice!)

I've got nuttin' to contribute.... just wanna git my post count up to impress the Mrs.
 
Well I wont say anything in defense of the 3630, but my Zoom 1205 is fun and has a good variety of semi-cheesy but cool effects. For under $200 new thats not too bad. My vote for best low-cost, reasonable-quality compressor is my Presonus Blue Max. The presets are great for newbies and it sounds fine. My next will be a RNC though.
