Hello all HR members, i posted this question over at gearslutz in not so great of grammer and instead of getting the question really answered. i got belittled for my poor use of english. BUT thats another story in itself, i will try my best to be as clear as possible this time around! ; )

When i first got into the mixing game my vocal chain was a studio projects b1 ldc ( $100), a bellari mp 105 tube preamp( $50 ), a m audio fast track usb interface ( used $50), and a cheap pair of skullcandy cans($50). since then i have upgraded to a ksm32 ldc into a ua la 610 pre and i gotta say i was loving the results. when i purchased the 610 id say thats when i progressed the most as a mixing engineer and obtained a great amount of knowledge about the homerecording game. so, recently as a experiment i pulled out my old vox chain tracking a verse or two through it and i gotta say i dont know if its because i became a better engineer but i ended up with some great results. so great i ended up scratching my head trying to justify why i now own a 2000 dollar vox chain over a 250 dollar vox chain that seemed to get great results as well?

a example of this $250 vocal chain can be heard here at www.soundclick.com/statixxthinkoutloudent and the song is called " Gz up"

i would like some feed back from fellow engineers on weather you guys think this is a good mix or not and if it is should i get rid of my 610 if i get great results from a $50 P.A.?

thanks for all replies in advance.

Yeah, I think the vocals sound good...I think the beat is pretty weak, BUT I like the lyrics and the flow. Vocal clarity is there. I think it sounds great.

:)

Yep, sounds good. I use an ST B1 too. No problems with it.

Hip hop is really not my thing.....:o

But your English is pretty good.....

Not a big hip hop fan at all, but I think the vocal sounds really good. I'd like to hear the same thing recorded with the more expensive chain.

Same here...I know expensive gear will sound better but at what level do we notice?

A good comparison would be hearing the same recorded with the expensive vocal chain...without it there is none

Sounded good to me..Id agree the beat was a little weak but the vocals great...mind you I haven't listened to rap since BDP so I may be a wee bit out of touch lol :)

^^ That is a absolutly great idea and I feel like a bone head for not thinking about that earlier. Every other track on that page is tracked with the more expensive chain. Later today I will track the exact same song with the same mixing process/ environment with the more expensive chain for you guys to compair if your intrested.thanx for the replies .

Do you run the 610 through the audiobuddy?

It would be good to hear the song with the other equipment - the vocal sounded good to me, without the issues I expect from a small toob preamp (if that's what that is) - I could only imagine what they sounded like in the room, but imagined that they were a little fuller than what I was hearing in the low mids.
