That new 'multiple wavs on one track' feature in sonar 5

I currently have sonar 3 producer.

One thing I've always wanted has been to have multiple takes on one track during tracking so I don't have to make a new track everytime the singer messes up in order to keep the previously recorded track. It looks like they have something like this in sonar 5? Multiple wavs on one track?

I read the little "what's new in sonar 5" thing and they just mentioned it, but I just wanted to confirm that this is pretty much what it is?

This feature is available in Sonar 4 & 5. In 4 it's often called a "composite recording", but it's the same thing. Multiple "takes" in one track. Then pick bits and pieces from different takes to make up the final track. I use it a lot with instrument solos.

Seems it would also be very helpful for comping vocals.

I use it a lot when I'm working alone...working out a solo or something like that...I just put it into a loop and play. Keep doing it...after a few takes, go back and pick the best one and voila!

that's in sonar3 as well. and you can choose whether to put the tracks into the original or for sonar to spawn a new track when the loop comes around again.

what i do is set the loop points outside of the punch-in points by a measure or two.

I'm not looking for that so much as I'm looking for a way to make multiple takes witht he same plugs and everything set up without having to make a whole new track and copying everything over per take. Then you end up with 100 tracks.

Hi Chris -

Crossstudio is describing the base behaviour in S3 - your need to have the takes end up in the same track is in both Sonar v4 and v5.

Sonar v5 has a more refined implementation of the concept, but even so, once you run out of vertical screen space, you will want to start another track.

But yep, it is there and it works pretty well - sometimes there is some weirdness when you delete a clip and the space is left behind, you need to manually REBUILD TRACK LANES but hey...it is an improvement on v3 for sure.

Ciao,

Q.
