Hello!

I really apologise, I've used search and there's lots of OLD info but I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to get a terratec EWS88 MT to work on windows XP.

Im going crazy here. I can't get it to work and the web has mainly old info from 2006 at the latest but mostly 2000/2001.

So yeah, can anyone walk me through how to set it up on windows XP?

Thanks, any help I recieve will be greatly appreciated!

erm,,,i had one of those for a good while,,and used it under xp with no problems.there were drivers for it etc.

what Exactly is the problem you're having, prehaps i can help.

ps,if it's drivers you're looking for, search for phase 88 drivers. it's the same package with the mixer software etc.

Well I put the card into the computer. Connected it up fine.

Installed what I think is a recent control panel for it (it says phase 88 on it and asks for the EWS88MT/D)

I've installed what I think are the right drivers. They were the most recent ones I could find but when I try to open the control panel it wont open and says that I need to make sure its installed properly.

I've gone into add new hardware and tried to do it that way but no dice.

Any ideas? Was it just plug in and off you go with you or did you have a specific setup regime?

as i remember with mine, i plugged in the pci card, connected up the breakout box ( mine was internal ) then installed the drivers that i had downloaded. it gave the the usual "this driver is not certified" and i continued anyway, and then it pretty much worked.

whats happenin? is it showing under device manager with a yellow exclaimation mark?

try searching for a newer version of the driver,< v5.47 is the most recent that i can find >

and perhaps try a different pci slot in your computer.

let me know how you go :)

Thanks, I will try some of those things tomorrow!

I also used mine with XP with no problems....Im sure that if you just purchased this unit, that you got it used....hope there are not issues with the unit itself...

Thats what I'm hoping pal!

I might have a talk to the seller now that I've paid and everything to see if there were any known issues.

So I changed ports and restarted.

It recognised that there was new hardware. I installed as best I knew how by the wizard and used the driver 5.51b from here:

http://ftp.terratec.de/Audio/EWS/88D/Update/

Now when I try to open up the control panel it gives me this error message...

"Hardware not enabled properly.
Please quit application."

Any ideas on how to overcome this? At first I thought it might have been that my machine is not using it but the system sounds come out of the sound card output and in my control panel audio section its all set to use EWS88 MT.

Thanks!

EDIT - I have solved the problem. It works perfectly now in my demo version of N-track recording software.

Now i have a new question about software.

What did you use when you used one of these? What is the best?

What can you select multiple devises for? (eg. my inputs are paired as separate devices and audacity could only select one device which was group 1/2 whereas n-track can select devices 1/2, 3/4, 5/6 and 7/8 and therefore record all 8 channels at once.)

I used mine with Adobe Audition. Set each track to mono and you can record 8 seperate sources to 8 seperate tracks....

for future users,,can you clear up what the problem was?

glad you got sorted.

+1 for using 8 mono tracks set up in the mixer.

memory is hazy, but i'm fairly sure there are 'stereo link' buttons that you can disable.

good luck.

Yeah getting the channels sorted wasn't the problem. i knew how to single out the channels to mono.

The problem was installing the sound card into a Microsoft XP machine.

It wouldn't recognise that its installed and wouldn't even see that new hardware was installed.

I ended up having to change ports and it recognised it straight away.

After stuffing around with installing it i tried to open up the phase 88 control panel. it came up with an error message.

I ended up trying uninstalling it and reinstalling it and it worked :)

So a simple fix to a simple problem, the thing is that you don't know what the problem is to simply fix it :P

The drivers and software im using arein a post above.

If theres people who have trouble getting it to work on an XP machine, try what i did and change ports, and install the software AFTER you install the card.

Hope my experience can help someone else out and thanks for your help to those who helped me!
