I want to know which bass guitar sounds the best on record. Please state whether it has Active of passive pickups; J-pickups, or P-pickups. What model also.

Stand-up bass.

Double bass.

Rick 4001.

Hofner.

Fender American Standard P-Bass.

Taylor Acoustic Bass.

Bass Ale.

Sea Bass.

Striped Bass.

Musicman XXX-151 Bass.

Ernie Ball Musicman: 4-string - Sterling
Ernie Ball Musicman: 5-string - Stingray

Thanks for your opinions guys, but do you think that Active pickups sound better when recording, then Passive.

If you think passive sound better; which one: J- or P- pickups

.....uh, noooo.....
It's how many useless one-liners you can type to rack up your post count. :D

I have a Jackson Professional with P-J configuration.

My favorite of the Basses i have is an Ibanez SR506 with DX6 Active pickups.

It has a few tweak controls so I can fiddle with that for the right sound I want when recording.

Ya know what? I agree with buck, too.

Buck, you're absolutely right!

Hixmix summed it all up

Including the Bass Ale and the sea/striped bass.

I forgot to add-

My Fender U.S. Vintage 1962 Reissue Jazz Bass, antique
cream finish that ages sooo well. And plays like the legend
it is. Not only made in the USA (get hard everybody) but
also "Made in Corona, California".

Just walk in on a jam session carrying that Fender tweed case
and people whisper in awe and reverence... you have the best
that can ever be.

Viva Californication!

Ricks are wonderful too.

Not only Paul McCartney, but also Geddy Lee plays this
magnificently funky bass. It holds second only to my Fender
Jazz.

Hofner violin body basses are ugly ass pieces of freshly squeezed, freeze- dried, reconstituted filletted and
macerated doo-doo that in a pinch make a damn good boat paddle or a clumsy weapon of protection. It is something
that should never have been.-*

But I love my upright bass. I take it on public transportation
every chance I can. Sit back in the back with a few friends
accompanying on dobro, mandolin, fiddle, guitar and banjo.
Cover anything from "Wabash Cannonball" to "Stop in the
Name of Love".

*IMHO...

Y'know?

I would'nt mind owning a John Myung edition Yamaha
Infinity six string bass.

A Bass Pale Ale or six would be real good about now...

B.C. Rich made a bass called the "Mockingbird" with a dual
P- bass pickup arrangement. Sounds good too.
