I am sorry if this has been aksed before. I am looking at buying fender strat. Are the hwy 1 series worth the money or should I go with an import? I can't really afford the usa version just yet unless it's the hwy 1 model.

Hi,
no Tipsy, don't be sorry....this question has never been asked before.....um...er ..well....not in the way you've asked it!! :p :D

So....Tele or Strat?

Regards,
Spit.

Oops, I think I wrote the question with both guitars lol. I'm leaning towards a Tele, but I like both. In general, do you think the highway 1 series is better than say a mexican made one? They cost a little more but both are considerably cheaper than a usa model. Thanks.

there are some good hwy1's and there are some bad ones. there are some good mexi's and there are some bad ones. there are some good americans and there are some bad ones. i dare say the "great" ones are few and far between, but good ones are out there.

the answer is to play a bunch of em and to buy the one that really sings and feels right in your hands. my buddy's got a mexi tele that rings like a bell.

and why limit yourself to new? i bought an 83 strat (last year in US) last month for $500 and it's got *the sound* and plays like a dream. i wasn't planning on buying a strat, but this was the one for me.

it's not hard--you just have to listen to the guitars. as long as the guitar speaks acoustically, any shortcomings with the electronics can be resolved.

cheers,
wade
