Fucking hell I love this board.
On topic - I voted number 3, but I'm way closer to 1 than 2. I don't mind drummers like the Linkin Park dude, but I prefer someone who can play better than at least I do.
Since I'm a post-hardcore guy, give me some more chaotic shit and I'll be extatic. Fran Mark from From Autumn To Ashes gotta be my favorite drummer for his type-shifts.

Sorry 'bout that, drummers. Well I'm in the sexy position of loving a song before any other instrument. If a drummer adds to the song I'm all for that. A drummer's drummer seems to be someone who fills the gaps & is able to be technically spot on but from a song writers point of veiw, well it's just boring!! I get into different modes when playing instruments. When I sit down to play drums I can appreciate a technically amazing drum pattern. But when I sit behind the monitors I lose the exitment for that kind of thing & the exitment for the song vetos it completely. Personally I don't hate ringo, I think he was technically rotten, but he was a million more times interesting than some drummers I've heard that are flawless but lack a spark. All they're able to do is jack off all over the place like some malfunctioning robot.
Space & silence is a very powerfull thing and the worst drummers IMHO don't understand that. I think that is true for ALL MUSIC, but it is less important or more important depending on the genré.

Years ago I was running a backline company as a subsidiary of a major music equipment wholesaler here in Australia, and every time a celeb drummer came out I would be roped into live sound engineering duties for drum clinician tours.
One of the many things that has stuck in my memory ever since then was Dave Weckl saying that he had never been hired for his chops, and only ever for his good time and feel. Trilok Gurtu also pointed out that no one he has worked for ever wanted him for anything but his groove...
