Teac 80-8 Reel Problem

Hi,
I recently purchased this great machine and it was working normally for a while. Anyway, when I hit stop on the transport the left reel keeps spinning to the left, tape winds off, gets caught, flipped and all f'd up when I stop at high speeds. Usually there should be a certian amount of tension or something, braking the reel and preventing this from occuring. I'm wondering how i can remedy this as I love and need to record with this deck. Anybody know what might be causing this?

I would suspect a clogged braking solenoid which may have to be cleaned in order to get it to behave.

I can't step you through the maintenance procedure of doing this work but a competent technician might charge you a couple of hours of bench time to correct this fixable problem.
