Greetings friends,

Thanks for having me on the forum :thumbs up: So I have a problem with my Teac 80-8, which up till now has been running fantastically. The issue was first noticed when I was rewinding a reel of tape and then hit 'stop' - to my alarm the take up reel kept spinning and tape went all over the floor! I quickly tried to slow it manually...

After that I did some research and heard about the solenoids sometimes having issues. Well, I took the back off and checked mine, sure enough there was an issue with the take-up reel brake solenoid! It has gone and bloody snapped at one end! I've not heard of this happening, if anyone can suggest either a way to fix or how/where to get a replacement part?

Many thanks!

The solenoid is fine, it appears perhaps the brake itself snapped off the arm. Call Tascam or email them. They may have this part.

Yes you are correct - I guess it will have to be a new part then? Not really something you can fix yourself, but just wanted to see what the folks on here said about it.

The guy at Tascam is asking for a part number, I have no idea what it is. Any experts out there can tell me?

You can talk to a small sheet metal or fabrication shop, or someone who is a tradesman like a mechanical fitter, they can probably make you a new band and fit it to the brackets.

The take up brake assembly comes as two parts.

The felt pad is part # 5554-1560

The brake band assembly is part # 5017-3332 and that is for the take up reel side.

The supply side is a different part # because the assembly is mirror imaged to the take side. It's part # is 5017-3392

There is a website called hifiengine .com and they offer free downloads of this service manual as well as many others too! But you do have to sign up for a membership...which is free.

That's where I got the info I just supplied to you.

Cheers! :)

Excellent - cheers!

Haha this is great, the OP in this thread is the engineer I've asked to find the parts and fix my 80-8... Seems I may be a step ahead of him.

Either a massive coincidence or he's the only one left!

Good luck. :)
