yeah seems doc and terry screwed the pooch on this one... it's a shame too ... that was a good site ... the whole thing came down to the spam... the "fee" discourages the spammers as they wont pay to just leave thier shit...

The threat of becoming a pay site has been hanging over the Tascam forum for quite a long time and in all probablilty, they are using the spammer/security thing as an excuse to justify a less than popular move.

They have it backwards anyway... I wouldn't go back there unless they put me on the payroll.
What you end up with by charging a fee is all children and no teachers. Few people with any background are going to pay an admission fee just to share that knowledge.

TASCAM has already removed their link from the list of recording websites. Now that they are profiteering with one of TEAC Corporation's registered trademark names I wonder how long it can last before they get the cease and desist order from TEAC.

I'd liken the move to extortion. That they have long time members pay up when they try to log in is criminal. TASCAM should shut them down. Damn right!

As a moderator of another forum myself, I know spammers have become a huge problem, but I still don't think making members pay is the solution. We had almost no spammers until about last April or so, and then it suddenly shot up last Thanksgiving, to where I kick out and ban about 100 spammers for every legitimate new user we get.
