Thanks, fellers! :D

Just needed a bit of digital Bondo to clean it up a bit. ;)

Cheers! :)

Another classic compressor/limiter from Neve. This one the 2254E in a 3 rack space high customized case, designed by me! :)

You made my hand look uber freaky...

Sorry about that. I was going for a space theme on that image and was trying to emulate an alien hand vibe. Nothing personal was intended about your hand! :)

Cheers! :)

Oh I wasn't saying I was offended...I was amused. No apology necessary.

Next up on the vintage compressor front is what has to be the most expensive, heavy, power hungry all tube units to ever grace the earth: The Fairchild 660 mono and 670 stereo compressors. Even today, these units command outrageous resale prices of between $12K and $20K!

And to top it off I personally find this units to be absolutely hideous cosmetically.

But I did try my best to make them as pretty as they're ever gonna get! :D

A name from the 80's some of you might be more familiar with: Orban. These guys made some highly respectable parametric EQ's and even a very hardy spring reverb unit which was stated to have 6 separate chambers to offer a broader frequency response and less of the dreaded slap effect!

Anyway, here's their model the 111B spring reverb unit from the early 80's...

I was mentioning in an earlier post that I was trying to hunt down some images of the CBS Laboratories Volumax program limiter from the mid 60's. I had read a little bit about these units and apparently they had a good reputation in their day for the AM radio broadcast industry and the model 400 seemed to be one of their earliest models and quite a few of them could be found on ebay. Unfortunately, most of what's available these days are pretty beaten up and most of the pictures I found were equally as poor as the condition of the units. But that didn't stop me from putting together the following wallpaper which was created from 14 different shots and assembled together to form something presentable.

Anyway, here's the render of a Model 400 with both a closed and open door...

Staying with the Volumax line, here's the 411 stereo version of the above which was geared to the FM broadcast market. I couldn't find any decent pic of one with the door open but its basically just two mono units stacked together with an additional feature of having a stereo strap circuit and FM pre-emphasis eq. I also re-worked the corporate logo with some newly installed matching fonts.

Here's the 411...

This will be the final image of the CBS Labs gear. This one is of the "Max Brothers", which consists of one Audimax III automatic compressor and the Volumax 400 peak stop limiter. CBS advertized them together back in print ads of the day and claimed they could make your radio station 8 times more powerful without upgrading your transmitter. I guess we can either thank or curse them for making radio sound so loud and so bad at times! :laughings:

Other traditional recording studios over the years discovered these beasts could also do wonders on individual instruments such as bass and drums and as such, they still enjoy some degree of popularity to this day for those applications.

Anyway, here they be...

I did a wallpaper of the TASCAM 22-2 a short time back but now realized, I forgot all about the 22-4! This will not do!

Anyway, I searched through my personal depository of images and found a decent candidate to transform in the following shot...

Nice CBS collection!

And I DO like the meter on that signal generator...that is a substantial bit of kit. Did you have to do a lot of tweaking to that image?

And VERY nice one of the 22-4...a sleeper of a machine...

Thanks for the kind feedback! :)

The original meter shot was taken close up with a wide angle lens, so it had the usual fish eye distortions which needed the usual corrections to straighten out the chassis face plate and then replacing the knobs from another shot of the same unit where there was more of a true head-on perspective of the knob it self. Plus there were other clean up fixes like removing a date time stamp and all the scratches. All told, about a 2 hour job. The original photos can be seen here:
