Good question. Bruce still owns the domain until Feb 2011 so it's not an expiration issue. Maybe he decided to wind it down...didn't look like it was getting alot of traffice over the last year or so.

I was on it up tell it went off and posted at least 3 times a week, there was still traffic on curtain parts of the site. It's more likely that there is a host problem, either with an equipment crash, it was attacked by spammers or the host company has gone out of business.

Another site (nothing to do with music) I post on was down from last November to 2 weeks ago due to a dispute with the host.

I tried sending an email to one of the administrators (not via the site but direct but it was an old address) to find out whats going on, but no replay yet.

There was a lot of useful information on that site so I hope it's not lost.

Cheers
Alan.

TASCAM forums = very bad. They charge a membership fee, and then they don't let you access the forum at all. Ever. I joined 2 years ago, and they've never let me log in. I sent an email about it, and got no response. So, my advice to everyone in the whole Universe is to steer clear of that site, because it is run by thieves!

Complete Rubbish. They asked for donations some years ago to keep it running as there was a single person paying to keep it hosted. I Donated a small amount many years ago and it was well worth the money.

Agree entirely Alan (BTW, good name)

As a frequent poster I can only assume there is a hosting problem because I can't imagine the owners would let all that knowledge go to waste. Much of it is still current (firewire info, usb interfaces) as well as the large user base of older Tascam gear. I've still got an MX2424 and an FW-1884 alongside a brand new US-1641.

I too am a fan of older tascam gear.. TMD4000 and several TMD1000's cascaded together. Works well.

I have no idea why that forum went down, but I will tell you that hosting your own forums is a real pain in the ass. Technically, it's not a big deal but the larger any social group gets the more whining and complaining and word-wars that will ensue. It's human nature.

I host two forums and six mailing lists (down from a much higher number), and there's not a day that goes by without something obnoxious in my inbox from someone who has a bug up their ass over usually nothing.

Some admins have better social graces than I do therefore they're bothered by this stuff much less. I'm allergic to idiots and whiners so...

Actually, they do require a $4 signup fee.

The way I see it, the $4 was to keep people on the site honest. Meaning if you paid $4 you were probably genuinely interested in what info it had rather than just being there to rant.
Hope it returns. I was just getting good enough on mt 2488neo to start asking the real good questions about it!

There wasn't much ranting going on prior to the $4 fee.

Also, the stated purpose of the $4 fee was to prevent spam...which is sorta like removing a wart with a bazooka.

well i'm jwgeetar here as i am there. give me a shout guys if your out there...i'm always getting a ton of great advice and tricks there.(not included in the manual).

BTW, it's worth $400 to me so paaa-lease quit crying about the $4chumpchange...what is this, whiner day?;)

I was thinking that too, $4 sigh the price of a good coffee, the was advice and tech information on the site that was priceless. Moaning about $4 ha ha ha, You could read the site for free to see if there was anything for you, you had to pay $4 to see images and to post.

And I had just joined that forum a week ago..... Oh well at least I was able to download the 2488 home user guide that had all the stuff the official guide left out. That in itself was worth the 4 bucks.

Hey TeyshaBlue,
Your first reply here was "Bruce still owns the domain until Feb 2011"
Have you heard anything lately regarding the return?
Surely someone who knows what's going on must be reading this.....

No, I dropped him an email yesterday. Haven't heard back from him yet.

If it comes back up, you ought to check out that software enhancement by mixermuse. MarkDart has a hand in it as well. Looks pretty cool.

If it's not copyrighted you should post that guide here.
