My band, Good Timing >
I got a tascam us1800 with cubase 5. Now, it took my a week to get the dumb registration thing to work. But, my comp fried and I got a new one and can't get it to register! Will it work with reaper? From what I've read, reaper is better anyways. Is it compatible? What I do is, I have an mbox 3 mini and pt8. I record guitars, bass, keys, singing, into pt8 then convert it into a wav and import it into cubase, record drums in cubase, export each track individually to wav and import it back into pt8. So instead of using cubase, can I use reaper?

Reaper or any other host program should be okay

Sounds like you've been doing the workaround a lot. Reaper should let you do what you want, so long as it recognizes the interface. If it does not, you'll need to download and install ASIO4ALL, a free program. It's a little tricky, but if you've already done workarounds, it should be just fine!

Good luck! I just ordered the same TASCAM US1800 interface myself, so I'm looking at threads to see what problems and/or issues folks have come up with..

Enjoy!!

No, no no no. Never use ASIO4ALL for anything that comes with it's own drivers. It is typically used to allow use of a crappy soundcard. Go to the Tascam website and download the latest driver. I do wonder about the patience of someone who finds registering Cubase an issue. There is much frustration ahead that will trump this.

I am curious, why are you alternating between DAW's? Any one of these are capable of doing the tasks within themselves.

Ahh, very true, but the new advice will still direct someone to the wrong answers. Bad advice is not cool. :D
